I think what I am now... a little worried. The manager isn't doing to much wrong though and the performances is there so I can't really complain too much about those 2 things. A little disappointed we're not picking up the points we deserve but I'm sure they will come. Other teams form will rise and fall just because we've spent a bit this season doesn't give us automatic rights we should be doing well, not forgetting Hooper and RVW are new to this league and might need to adjust to this league. If the worse does happen and we're relegated then so be it, I will still support my club no matter what.
I also happen to agree with Gowers in his evaluation of us as a `middling Premier League club, at best`- that´s exactly all we can expect to be imo. Much of the frustration on here seems to stem from people having far too lofty expectations, just because we´ve bought a few good players ( as has everyone else), just because we´ve spent a few millions ( as has everyone else) doesn´t suddenly mean we´re going to waltz into the top half of the table.
I do completely agree with this, although I disagree with the thread. I think this board would be a lot healthier if someone would argue your point rather than reply by posting a string of cheap smileys and just completely discredit a point with no argument. I know I might be called up because I said "people who booed yesterday need they're head testing" because I feel that harms the morale in the camp and can have a direct affect on the team. I've once hammered KIO's point about a change of manager straight after a game last season and realised this is a place where everyone should be able to express their opinions and I enjoy this forum a lot better when there is genuine debate going on.
I did NOT call you stupid, I called your post stupid for suggesting that we are up **** street because an ex goalie of ours had an outstanding game yesterday and Sunderland won their very first game of the season today! I'm just saying that those two events somehow mean we are going to be relegated is stupid! So far, only Kick it off and our resident scum wum are the only two to support you, that tells its own story as far as I'm concerned!
I do not have unreal expectations, I would love us to be middle table and this is what I think we are. I just think given the improvements to our forward line and team we shouldn't be where we are.
This summarises my stance exactly. Good post, YellowLittle The one thing I would add is that maybe investment in a top level attacking coach is - or could be critical as the season wears on. As has been said (countless times) we're improving fast, but others are starting to leap-frog us. Our much improved midfield STILL hasn't fathomed how to read RvW and recently Hooper's runs and positioning. 9 games into a 38 match season and that is a shocking statistic.
Think some people have false hopes of where we should be, maybe looking at Southampton and Swansea and are a bit jealous. Sure it'll will be nice to be comfortable and fighting for a top 10, but in reality it's going to be tough.
So because more people are backing Hughton that makes Kemp's opinion invalid? To be honest Sunderland winning today makes me feel slightly worried. I still think we'll survive and I also think Hughton is the man to do that but why completely write off Kemp's opinion?
Just do one Dave. I didn't say we were going to be relegated or that I even think we will. When the teams below us start picking up points it puts us in a more difficult position.
If we want to blame anyone for yesterday not being a win lets blame R Martin for missing the clearest header ever or blooming Marshall for having stepped in the biggest lump of dog poo in his life before he walked back into our ground To have any grumble at CH for yesterday's positive performance is pathetic give the man a break and have some faith
I completely agree with that, I suggested to my Dad to perhaps get in someone like Andy Cole from Huddersfield who was obviously a prolific top tier forward. When you look at Calderwood and Hughton they were obviously defenders. I stand corrected on this but wasn't Trollope a defensive midfielder? If that's the case than I do think we are lacking a attacking minded coach.
I didn't say his opinion was invalid, I said it was stupid and I stand by that! I told Kempy yesterday that he is entitled to his opinion, but if he wishes to share it, he must also accept opposing views from others, it's a two-way street!
We are 3 points off Swansea who are in 9th place and 4 points above Sunderland. Does that mean that Swansea should be worrying about dropping into the bottom 3? Should they sack their manager because they didn't score against West Ham today, at home? We just completely dominated Cardiff, with 31 shots. No, we didn't score, no we didn't get the 3 points, what we did do is show that our players are definitely good enough to stay up and with a little bit more composure infront of goal we'll be fine. Not every keeper will play like Marshall did. We have now put on 4 very good performances in a row, we beat Stoke, we ran Chelsea right to the wire, we got simply out classed by an inform Arsenal (but still played well) and we got no luck in a game we completely dominated against Cardiff. What reason from those matches is there to sack Hughton?! He can't kick the ball in the net for the players, but if he keeps getting them to play like they are at the moment, the points will come!
Many people said this after the Stoke match. But even though the performances are much more assured, the goals are still not occurring (6 in 9 matches - holy ****) so quite where these 'points will come' from, I'm not sure. I hope I'm wrong, but as things stand, it ain't looking overly good.
But I don't see Kempy calling your opposing views stupid, using smileys renowned for being patronizing and not actually offering any debate on the matter. You also label their posts (which is obviously opposing to yours) "****". One thing you're right about is it's a two way street but I think you should accept opposing views from others. Last I am saying on it, but I feel that everyone is quick to call Kemp and KIO embarrassing for having their own opinion but I think it's the patronising put downs which really bring shame on this forum.
Since Stoke we have scored against Chelsea and Arsenal and some kind of magic seemed to prevent us from scoring vs Cardiff. I know it doesn't seem good at the moment but the signs from the performance, the shooting, the positions we are getting in are all so much better than against say Hull or Spurs. We havn't quite cracked the formulae yet but it feels very close.
Did Dad give the obligatory nobody give's Andy Cole a chance because they think his stroppy line? Some good ideas about the coaching system, you have goal keeping coaches why not have coaches for specific area's? Not only would you see the benefits technically it will help the psychological side of the players game especially things like goal droughts etc.
