We wont sell and we have two years to come to a compromise on an extension he has openly said he will not leave Newcastle - meaning even if we accept a bid he can run down his contract here - simples.

I can't see us letting Nolan go.... but I also said that about Carroll! I'd be gutted if he went, we can't sell our hat trick hero!

I agree. Read my post #16 and you will see that I have already stated that we shouldn't sell him for that price.

But as proven with Carroll you can also see that you do sell your highest scorer if the price is right. £35m was silly money and hopefully this summer we will spend it wisely and will have increased the strength of the squad well beyond what Carroll alone gave us.

  4. You shouldn't sell players for "the right price" if you need the players more than the money. Players such as Cheik Tiote... even if a bid of 50 million came in, you wouldn't sell him because you can't just assume that your replacements will make up for the loss, and you'll be branded a selling club.

We need to sell the lowest amount of players possible. I wouldn't sell Nolan for any price, because his goals are vital. Apart from Carroll he's been our only consistant goal scorer.

And also the money goes straight to Ashley. We should stop assuming that the transfer fees from all players gets reinvested in the club. Ashley will pocket what he can.

Every player has his price Tash, even Messi. The economics of running a club is just as important as anything else and if you can get enough money to replace a player like for like or is even better and have cash left over to buy additional players or assets then it makes sense to sell. Like you I don't want us to be a selling club but every player we have without exception (yes including Tiote) has a price tag which I would say warrants him being sold. Any other stance on that is naive.

  6. Sometimes what a player can give in performances is worth more than his transfer fee <ok>

In which case what you're losing in a players performances is worth the amount you get from the transfer.

Every player has a price tag but that doesn't mean we should sell every player if we get a massive offer.

I'm not suggesting that we sell every player that we get a decent offer for either. I just said that every player has a price at which it makes sense to sell. But no owner with two brain cells to rub together would sell every player he gets a decent offer for. Rebuilding a squad every year doesn't work, Sunderland, the Bin Dippers and the Spuds will be reminded of that again next season.

Teams take time to gel and you want to keep squad changes to a minimum. Man U are a prime example of this, they rarely make more than a few changes each season and keep the majority of the squad intact. It is the way to build a winning team. (Assuming you have the basis of a squad to start with obviously)
