NEWCASTLE and Spurs are leading the chase for FC Basel keeper Yann Sommer.

The Swiss international 24 will be available for around £3.5million in January after refusing to sign a new deal.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is looking to bring another quality keeper to White Hart Lane as veteran American stopper Brad Friedel, now 42, nears the end of his career.
The Portuguese coach has had Sommer, capped four times by his country, watched on a number of occasions in recent months.
And he reckons Sommer is good enough to challenge French keeper Hugo Lloris for the No.1 spot.
Newcastle are also monitoring the situation amid fears their Dutch keeper Tim Krul will once again be targeted by Europe’s top clubs – either in the new year transfer window or next summer.

He's a really good keeper, whether he'd be willing to play second fiddle to Krul (until he possibly leaves) is another question

If its us or Spurs then no contest really as they will offer better wages.

Doubt he would want to play second fiddle to Lloris. Think we can tempt him with the line that he will be first choice as soon as Krul is sold.
