http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24688662 Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised Luis Suarez for the way in which the striker has moved on from the club's refusal to sell him to Arsenal. please log in to view this image The Reds rejected Suarez's request for a £40,000,0001 move to the Gunners. Rodgers said he had been delighted by the response of the Uruguayan, who scored his first hat-trick at Anfield in Saturday's 4-1 win over West Brom. "I knew once I got the commitment from him in the summer he wasn't going to walk out," said Rodgers. "He's been great from then on." Liverpool turned down two bids from Arsenal this summer for Suarez, even though the 26-year-old pleaded with his manager and the club's owners to be allowed to join a team in the Champions League. Following Liverpool's sixth league win of the season, Rodgers added: "He is a tireless worker and I knew that if he stayed it would be a case of him working as he always done because he is that kind of character. "It was a difficult summer for him but it was for everyone. But we managed it as a club and he managed himself well and he has come out of the other side and he is performing as he does, to a very high level." The performance of Suarez may have stolen the show at Anfield but Daniel Sturridge also found the net to take the partnership's Premier League goal tally to 14 for the season. When asked whether it was Liverpool's best performance of the campaign, Rodgers said: "Absolutely, I thought we looked a very good team. "West Brom are a very good side. They went to Old Trafford and won, so for us to score four goals - and we could have had a few more - it was an outstanding team performance." The result leaves Liverpool second in the league table, but Rodgers hinted he would be prepared to further strengthen his squad. "We want to get through to January with the team we have, the squad we have, and keep the confidence up," he said."Then we will assess it and reinforce it from there, like we did last January. "We will be into a time when we can reinforce the team and hopefully the players will stay fit and we will reinforce from there."
After that performance it shows how right we were to turn down 40 million, double it and your getting closer.
Oh yeah he's very committed I wish Rodgers would stop praising his commitment, he was hell bent on leaving this Summer. Don't get me wrong I'm happy he's playing well and giving everything to the team, but that's the minimal requirement when putting on the red shirt, we'll see how committed he really is in January.
I agree, he seems happy now and is playing very well. I don't see a problem in January but in the Summer who knows. If Suarez wants to leave though he needs to stop playing like that because he's pricing himself out of the market.
He's blowing smoke with the aim of trying to convince him to stay. Another reason why next weekend and this season is so important to show him there is not much to be gained by leaving.
he will be going nowhere in Jan (bar a 65m+ bid from abroad ) that leaves it up to us to stay in they Cl spots and should we finish the season with Cl secured then no reason to leave, Cl is still a long shot though imo
What would you expect him to say- "Looey's playing well, although he's a little **** who doesn't want to be here."? He's talking about his commitment on the pitch having failed to get his move, and he's right to do so, imo. If stroking Suarez' ego helps to get performances like that from him, then long may it continue. I'd rather we put the success of the club before any petty indignation about his inability to feel glued to the club.
When you see that performance yesterday and his link up play with Sturridge it would an enormous loss if he was to go. Don't think anything will happen in jan esp if we are still up there and we can bring in a couple of quality players like last January. Summer may be different. But it's obvious he is better than bale so we should accept nothing less than £84 million plus. With the inconsistency of the Manchester clubs ther is a big opportunity for us this season. If you take our form since last jan we are good as anyone so why people are saying we won't stay there I don't know. Have faith!
Depends on whether we hold our nerve, Spurs were terrible today and have been all season tbf. We have a better first 11 imo, but they have the depth. If we keep a fit first team and keep playing OK (and even actually reach last seasons standards) we could be in for a real shout. We also have no Carling Cup or EL to knacker our thin squad. I could easily see a top 4 of City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Us.
We could win the league, CL and world club cup in one season, Luis will still want to leave if Barca or Real come knocking!
this is all quite simple. 1. suarez is what he is. he could no more play badly on purpose or refuse to play than he could refuse to breathe. 2. january is a different story. we will i hope survive it intact and he will not agitate "too much" 3. he will be sold in the summer, of that i have no question. if he gets 25-30 goals this season with only fa cup and league.... well that 60mil will have a line of clubs waiting to pay it.... if he doesn't do something stupid.... if he'd not bitten ivanovic someone would have bought him... if he learns to move the right way and not do silly things he'll get his move... 4. the world cup should see him a star.... i believe 60mil is the minimum we can expect... queue OUR chance to build a team just like spurs did. 5. One good window in jnaury for us and we could be seen as the "coming team" Sahko at the back, suarez and sturridge up fornt. money i nthe bank and if we are lucky a good european slot on offer... if we add two players of quality in january I think we can see that 60mil spent on a few real stars and our club finally back on the path to the top. 6. when he leaves i will breathe a sigh of relief as he is a mad man who's just a second away form a seasons ban at any minute. I'll take the money knowing it could set us up.
My worry is that even if we do sell him for £50m or £60m how the hell do you replace him? Spurs have tried to replace Bale with 3 or 4 good players and although it's increased their squad depth, they've struggled in 3 games against "lower" opposition so far this season and only won 1-0 thanks to a penalty. Had a fit Bale been playing in those games you can bet your life they wouldn't have struggled to break them down that much. Sell Suarez and we may be able to get 3 or 4 top quality players, but will we be able to get the kind of player than can make something out of nothing and win a game on his own? We'd be very lucky if we do for £20m again.
We've found many game changing players over the years - just not always gone ahead with buying them (usually owners ****ed that up). Aguero, Silva and Mata we scouted and wanted before they had big money moves but our owners didn't pay up. We did end up buying Alonso, Torres, Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez who are all game changers. We have a habit of finding the next top talent so we can replace him, we just need our owners to be convinced that it's the right move. That said, we should be doing everything in our power to keep Suarez at the club. Spuds didn't replace Bale, they spread the money around the midfield and attack too much. Will be April when they start firing as a unit.
But that's my point, it's all well and good getting £60mil and saying we'll buy 3 of 4 quality players but we thought we did that with the Torres money and we messed up and it set us back 3 years. Now i'm not saying the same will happen, but it's a lot harder to go out and replace someone that can change a game in the way Suarez can. Spurs have brought 4 attacking players to try and replace Bale and none have come anywhere close to reproducing the match winning performances he has (athough I admit it is still early days). At the moment, I'd rather have Suarez in the form he's in than Eriksen, Soldado & Lamela.
They gave Dalglish the money without having tested the water with his transfers, nor had he been in post very long. Giving the money to BR would be very different
I don't dispute that BR would spend the money better, my point is it's not that easy to replace Suarez and the ability to change a game as Spurs are finding with Bale at the moment.
