At The End Of The Season, I Am Still A QPR Player

12:15 am, Sunday, October 27th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · No Comments

Newcastle fans who had hoped that Loic Remy would sign a permanent deal at Newcastle in January, may be disappointed by some of his comments in the Telegraph today, as he seems to have no wish to sign on at Newcastle in January, and says he will still be a QPR player at the end of the season.

Newcastle United's Loic Remy scored in the Premier League against Hull City at St James' Park

Loic Remy – 5 goals already for Newcastle

Loic has already essentially turned down Newcastle once, when he surprisingly signed with QPR in January, when they were rock bottom of the league when he signed, and stayed there until the end of the season and were relegated..

But Remy has been great for Newcastle so far this season, with five goals in just six appearances for the Tyneside club.

This is what the Frenchman had to say today:

“The question has probably not come at the right time,” “That question will have its time to be asked. The most important thing for me at the moment is playing well here at Newcastle, putting in great performances and doing well for this team.”

“Then, hopefully, trying to get a more regular position in the French squad, which is a focus for me as well.” “Afterwards, at the end of the season, I am still a QPR player.”

“I am just on loan, but we will then look at that question. I will look at whatever offers come in – whether that be from Newcastle or whether that be from QPR. Then I’ll consider what is best for me and what is best for my future career.”

It would cost Newcastle only around £8m to sign Remy, and that would be an excellent buy for the club, but that’s also why other big clubs will no doubt be interested in him this summer. :(

No way can see Remy coming back to us if there's an £8m release clause

I think the clause is still valid, he doesn't want to commit to them because he thinks he can do better. I still don't see him back here.

Its still good for us as there was a rumour they only had to pay 6m as they'd already paid 2m for the loan fee. So wed get 10m if he goes to another club

Newcastle will have to pay a minimum of £10million to sign Loic Remy after QPR increased his release clause, the People can exclusively reveal.

News of the £2m rise in his fee comes as he also refused to pledge his future to the Toon beyond his 12-month loan, which expires in the summer.

Remy turned down Newcastle last January and joined QPR before switching to Tyneside in the close season.

The France striker has had a fantastic start to the campaign at St James’ Park but yesterday gave no hint that he plans to stay when his deal finishes.

“I will look at whatever offers come in – whether they be from Newcastle or whether they be from QPR,” the 26-year-old said. “Then I’ll consider what is best for me and for my future career.

“The most important thing at the moment is playing well at Newcastle, then hopefully trying to get a more regular position in the French squad.

“And then, afterwards, I am still a QPR player. I am just here on loan.”

Remy had an £8m release clause when he joined QPR from Marseille – but the London club have now increased that figure to £10m.

Remy, who claims to have settled in well at Newcastle, said personal reasons were behind his decision to snub Toon in favour of London last January.

He said: “I was happy with the choice I made. I believed Newcastle was a great club and it would have offered me a great career but for personal reasons I decided to go to QPR.

“But it was disappointing because we suffered relegation. Now I am really happy to be here at Newcastle.”

Toon boss Alan Pardew would love Remy to join in a permanent deal but revealed his future was still unclear.

“There is no deal in place for Loic Remy. It’s complicated,” he said. “There’s a long road yet for him and for us.”

What he's trying to say is ................ "as a place to live on a permanent basis, Newcastle really sucks, so if I keep playing well and scoring, at the end of the season, I can f-ck off out of this hell hole back to London or better still, Europe."

Toon boss Alan Pardew agreed, "Remy would be a great buy for the club but the fact that he reckons this place sucks, really complicates things."

I think they have it wrong, the £10m is including the £2m theyve already paid us so the clause stays the same.

you cannot change the clause unless he signs a new contract.

I guess still holding the player's contract at the end of the season could still be our 'ace in the hole'. Remy's advisors will no doubt be encouraging him to hold fire, keep banging them in so his stock continues to rise, and defer his decision until the end of the season.

His £8m release clause could be irrelevant if QPR gain promotion and Fernandes offers to renegotiate his contract. This may not be wise, but I think holding the contract means the Rs effectively have first refusal.

It would not surprise me if all that has happened with respect to Remy since we signed him was not thought through from the beginning. It is like holding an option on him that can be exercised come May. In the meantime, Toon pay his wages and Fernandes can get him off the books relatively easy if need be.

There is the matter, of course, of the charges against him.

...and all that said, I don't expect to see him back in the hoops (sadly).

What do you mean by the bit in bold Ubes?

Surely if the relegation release clause is still in effect (we've still no idea whether us winning promotion cancels it) we have to accept any offer of the value? Depending on Remy's values he will have the choice between who is prepared to pay him most, which town he feels happiest in, most likely to win a trophy, has the Chairman most likely to play X-box with him or whatever floats his boat, what would give us first refusal?

I mean 'effectively', Roller, in that holding his contract means that, if promoted, then Fernandes still gets an opportunity to sell 'QPRFC in the PL' to Remy before he might consider other offers. He signed for a prime relegation candidate at a time when he could've gone elsewhere and not be troubled by such things. Now, he either did this because he thought we'd stay up, or he had the release clause and/or the promise of a loan away, or he was seduced by the moolah. I suspect it was chiefly the latter, so there is a chance that this will be a major factor the second time around. Whether Fernandes wants to up the game again, and whether this would be enough, only time will tell.

A slight rethink, but I guess Remy will also keep 'em guessing until after the World Cup, should France get there, he be selected and not in the clink. If he should make a big impact there then his stock will rise much further and he'll be more inclined to seek CL football next year too.

Yeah, I'm clutching at straws, really. Like I said, I don't expect to see him back in the hoops. Anything else is a bonus.
