Got dragged off to a party directly after the final whistle, yesterday, and have had plenty of time to reflect and be miserable. We were awful. The constant passing in the middle of our own half was painful and slow. Our running off the ball was nonexistent and when Hiollett got the ball nobody supported him or made any diversional runs, we just stood and watched. No need to panic, though! Three points at Wigan are on the way!
No chances for Chevanton. Looked busy when he came on, but there was little opportunity for him to make an impact. There were no chances full-stop. The passing was just incredibly sloppy. We tried to take the sting out of the game but the passing wasn't up to it. Henry was awful but Hoilett really aggravates me. Time and time again he makes the wrong decisions; this isn't based solely on yesterday's game but his appearances against HT and Leeds also.
At least Hoilett was trying something, sure he did the wrong choices at times but he was our only threat. He was the only one brave enough to try stuff. Oneill was anonymous, can you think of a single attacking thing he did and Kranjcar was off the pace.
If you bother to read my earlier post you'll see I was critical of O Neill. He's no winger and has no pace which makes him pretty ineffectual in certain situations. Actually, in terms of end product, Hoilett is rather similar to SWP. The amount of times he runs himself into trouble is incredible. There was one example yesterday from the second half when he had 20-30 yards to run into and cut inside straight away bringing the whole attack to a shuddering halt. He did similar things numerous times against HT and a couple of times vs Leeds, both games which I attended.
I wasnt arguing with you. just re enforcing my point that he offers very little going forward, something Ive said from the start.
I agree. We've not seen anything near positive enough from Sean Wrong-Person, Junior Hoilett or (yet) Matt Phillips. Oh, how I'd love to see one of those have the same impact that Townsend or even Routledge had during their time with us.
Based on the little I have seen of us this season, FFS I got to agree with you again Flyer! Also I agree very much with whoever posted he wishes we had Townsend (fat chance now, he looked England's best player against Poland) and Routledge. SWP, Hoillett and from what I saw yesterday especially O'Neill, are not at their level.
That's what I'm not convinced he will do for us. To answer Stan, no, I've never seen the fantastic player that others describe. Very talented though, without a doubt. I hope he proves me wrong!
Just watched limited highlights again. Although Henry lost possession in the build up to the first goal, Dunne comes charging out of the middle and leaves a huge space behind him. Not covered himself in glory, our Richard, over the last couple of games.
