Bit surprised to see Berbatov given the Captain's armband when Hangeland didn't appear for the second half yesterday. Was that because Parker wasn't playing?
Berbatov took the Captain's armband again last night when Hangeland didn't come out after the break. Jol has said that Hangeland was taken off due to an injury to his sciatic nerve, aggravated while on international duty. Begs the question why he went on the International trip in the first place but anyway, could mean he's now going to be out for a bit. If so, are you happy that Berba continues in the role of Captain? Apart from the fact it guarantees his selection (which I guess was pretty much a given anyway) and his general 'grumpiness' towards others, I'm not convinced that a No. 9 is in the best position to take on the role. I know he's the new boy on the street but surely Parker, in midfield and with his experience, should be the choice?
I was saying the same thing when Hangeland was subbed - why wasn't Parker given the armband? But what shocked me even more was when Berbatov was subbed and he passed it on to Sidwell! That means, at best, Parker is 4th choice Captain. I'm shocked because I watched him captain England vs Wales at Wembley less than 2 years ago. However I can't deny Sidwell the captaincy role after last nights performance, passion and commitment. But Berba on the other hand....hmmmm
Exactly the same happened against Stoke. I think probably a bit premature to put Parker ahead but he could definitely be very soon...
Siders may not be the most gifted player we have but I would say he more then deserved the captains armband. His no nonsense approach and unending determination should lift the team and set an example to others.
What I like about Steve Sidwell is that he is a grounded person that confesses he is living the dream being a pro footballer. Top bloke.
Happy to have Berbotov playing for Fulham, and even put up with his sulks when things don't go right, but no way is he a captain. What really hacked me off was him marching off the pitch at the end, and not bothering to come over to the fans. Yes, it's awkward for the players when they have not performed, but everyone else granted us than bit of respect. And MJ let him walk past.
Berbatov may have been frustrated. He may even have been embarrassed. However not acknowledging the travelling fans is, as you say Gera, unacceptable behaviour of a Club Captain. The point you make about Jol though is more important. It suggests that he has no authority or he couldn't care less.
According to the point you made on another post is not Berba's fault the team lost. Definitely not Jol's as he was not playing. Only the back four are responsible. Let's slaughter Senderos, Riether and the rest. No matter they are left exposed continuously and they don't know who to mark!!!
