Wow, how sad is that? people really see a swastika in a design made of slanted initials. There are some sick people in this world, looking for victimisation in everything they see but this is just beyond belief!

Some of the 'sick people' you mention are employees of MUFC.

The club's head of media, David Sternberg, apologised on Twitter and said an internal investigation was underway into how the email was cleared for publication.
"The creative is completely inappropriate; we apologise unreservedly and are taking appropriate internal action," he tweeted.
Senior members of the club are understood to have been shocked by the email.
Action has been taken to prevent the email being distributed any further, the club said.

It has a stigma attached to it (thanks for that Nazi party) and therefore is wrong if someone uses it

In Germany (and Fawlty Towers - dont mention the war) it is illegal to represent this symbol but apparently its still widely used in many Indian religions

I see vans on the road every day with four letter initials skewed at an angle to make them look more dynamic/interesting, are all the companies that do this Nazi sympothizers and what of their advertising companies?

My point being that Utd felt they had something they had to apologize for and 'Senior members of the club' felt there was something to be shocked about.

They must have seen things differently than you Diego, maybe a generational difference?

Nope, like i said, a knee jerk reaction to somebody`s stupid interpretaion of a skewed set of initials. The image of the club comes first and any stupid slight has to be acknowledged, in this case more thought should have gone into it.

Your club is owned by a family of the Jewish faith, perhaps it was them who ordered the apology and investigation into it.

They'ed be within their rights to do so wouldn't they Diego?

This is total bollocks and exactly what fumes me about modern society and press.

This is only very slightly like the symbol and the new order referes to Uniteds new era.

This has been taken totally out of context and the fact they felt the need to apologise/explain themselves is embarrassing.

May I also remind them the swastika is a ancient symbol taken and used by the Nazis, not made by them - again showing how flimsy this article is.

Surely it's up to United as a club to decide what is and what is not in their best interests and not really an issue to us.

However, it is sad that some people appear to be trying to say that the Swastika is merely a device. Now I was born after WW2 but close enough to understand the dread and hatred that it provoked for the general population of these isles. The link between the Nazis and the device should never be down-played.

Take is you're referring to me Dave?

I may not be as old as you but I do have a history degree and know what I'm talking about.

This is mere opportunism against United which they have felt the need to cave in to save a public row with said opportunists.

It wasn't directed at you in particular.

Firstly, please read what I said about United. It's just not our problem.

Secondly, it's not really a question of where the symbol came from. In the culture of Europe and North America it has become inextricably linked with the Nazi's and is the first cultural reference. It is immaterial, that it originated as a peaceful symbol in some alien culture. I understand that the further we get away from the reality of the Nazi's the more historical revisionism is going to take place. To a large number of people of my age and older any positive reference to the Swastika evokes a powerful repulsive response.

I actually don't see a swastika in the design but I won't decry anybody reacting if they do.
