To be fair we were either going to be 4th or 5th. Oh well, we're going to be last next week, as we're playing Stoke.
No, you're confusing it with 1983-84, when we finished second to Liverpool. We finished seventh in 1988-89 I believe.
Thought we played beautifully today. Fulham had no answer to us in any area of the pitch. Great to see Lambert back in form. Rodriguez was brilliant. Some of his runs were electric. It was totally out of order for some of the crowd to boo Guly coming on by the way. There's no need for it at all.
I didn't hear anyone boo him; the carnival atmosphere had taken over so much that people around me (Northam) were cheering him all the way. I do wonder if, at a distance, 6,000 people in the Northam all shouting Guuuuuuuuuuuuuuleeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! sounds like booing. Vin
Moaning about Lallana? That beggars belief!!! In fairness I was one of a few (I think you were 'in this number' too Dan) that was beginning to question Adam's place in the team at the very start of the season. I am delighted that he's proving me utterly wrong in that regard.
Me too, legitimate questions though, it's not because we didn't like him but he had to step it up to fulfill his natural ability (the best we've produced from the academy). And he clearly has. Love him.
PS can anyone who likes in depth stats tell me how many touches/runs/passes Bent and Berb made today? Just for my own amusement.
Our best opening 45 minutes, imo, for a very long time. Christ we were good. So many candidates for MOTM, but I'm going for Lallana. Although I'm going to give a special MOT-first-15-mins award to Clyne. My jaw did drop when I saw that Jol had selected Berba and Bent from the start. Even more so given that Ruiz and Kasami were in the team too. I don't want to criticise him, because on paper it was a pretty bold and positive mood. They are many negative managers who I would much rather criticise. But honestly, away to a side like us, it was only ever going to end badly. Parker and Sidwell had next to no chance. And Berba and Bent are both, for differing reasons, a million miles away from being 'away' players.
It does - if we weren't playing so well or if I wasn't in a good mood then I'd probably have said something instead of settling for passive aggressive comments of disbelief to my mates. But yeah, I was with you on that, but I'm not stupid enough to stick to my convictions if they're being proven wrong (see Lovren on that!) Lallana was excellent today and against United, and by all reports against Swansea too. As I said today, we're seeing the triumphant return of League One Adam.
Just got back in and here is my analysis: That is quite possibly the best performance I've seen from any Saints team ever. The end.
