RU's marketing is excellent, not denying that, that's how they can host cup/league games and pull in a non-partisan crowd of 50,000-60,000 on top of the core of regular club support.

The game on Friday was huge despite it only being a pool game, they were hosting the European champions, hence the massive interest from the 45,000 or so non-Saracens fans.

I'm not surprised at the slow ticket sales for the Fiji game at the KC, there's a general sense of apathy towards the England RL team in Hull, and there has been for a while now. Many RL fans don't really buy into the concept of the world cup either, me included. Teams like Italy, Fiji, Cook Islands...etc are just made up of NRL or SL players that couldn't get picked for Aus/Eng/NZ which defeats the object really.

What?!?!?!....but this is the capital of Rugby League and with two world famous clubs. The traffic stops in Buenos Aires and all trivial chatter stops in the bodegas and bars when the ESPN footage of our two local rugby titans is shown on the local cable tv. In Plaza Millward red roses are hung on Derby Day and Montevideo's top RL side named Macklin's Old Boys on homage to our local legend.

I've also heard Putin is a secret Rovers fan and all business in the Kremlin stops when the red and whites meet the black and whites and it's on live.

Please don't shatter my illusions about the oval ball game that is so loved worldwide....

By the sounds of it rugby league is getting really big in South America. With any luck Gwillam Lloyd will go and live there.

Large areas of the ground had the seats covered over with massive banners to disguise empty seats.

I care that rugby has and does negatively impact my football club.

I care that local media and local politicians continue to artificially represent the interest locally and beyond in this sport.

The only positive aspect of this is that some of the local obese mouthbreathers and their menfolk are thus Darwinistically prevented from supporting City.

Posted by Hull City Council and featuring two out of our three sports teams.

Can anyone guess which one isn't featured?

I haven't the faintest idea of what you are talking about. Your comment was on a post of mine relating to the sell-out Huddersfield WC match which is being played on the 2nd of November.

Not trying to make a point either way, but the only times I'm aware the RL world cup is on (assuming it hasn't finished already), is from the two or three mentions some lad at work has made and this thread on here.

Maybe (and I'm guessing here) if you have Sky or read the HDM or are interested in Rugby it might be more prominent but its like its not happening to me, as the average person.

Anyway the game between the two biggest countries in rugby league in the sport's 'world' cup couldn't fill the ground yesterday.

Att. 7,481 today in this rugby-crazy city for PNG-France.

I believe some of them actually paid to get in as well as all the freebie ticket users.

You're either black and white or you're red and white!

As for the Choir song thingy , i thought the intro was almost a little bit catchy - but it went bad after - reminded me of Harry Seacombe
