"He wasn't picking sides but I did ask him to pray for Sunderland and he said that he would." That's only fair, we've already had an Italian, and Englishman and a Uruguayan picking the side ..... an Argentinean, on top of that, would just be too surreal
Erm balls to spelling, the popes a mackam/mackem and he is praying for us this weekend? Amen to that Mr Pope
Could be worse Joe. I have a mate, Glen from Mansfield, who got drunk on holiday and went in for a Sunderland tattoo. He had the old badge with the boat and the name of the club underneath. Sadly the tattooist couldn't understand his accent and spelled it S U N D E R E L A N D Since then he's always been called Glon ..........
http://www.catholicherald.co.uk/new...underland-football-club-as-he-poses-with-top/ Pope Francis has said that he will pray for Sunderland football club after being presented with a shirt with “Papa Francesco” on the back. Fr Marc Lyden-Smith, chaplain to the club and priest at St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral in Newcastle, managed to give the shirt to the Pope during his general audience on Wednesday despite being in a crowd of 120,000. He told the Chronicle: “[The Pope] was very interested in where Sunderland were in the league and I told him about the derby and he said he would be very interested to see the results on Sunday. “He is a bit too diplomatic to be drawn into picking a side but I asked him to pray for the club and he said he would.”
