Recently Captain posted about being asked to be moderator. I think it is fair to say that no - one particularly either wanted to be or either felt the need to have a moderator. Syd messaged me as well about being the moderator. I passed on to him the feelings expressed by users on the fulham site, i.e: It will take too much time out of our days. What are the roles of the moderator. Is it necessary to actually have one. Syd replied by saying that the moderator role is not a necessity. It basically means that as a forum ( Fulham ), we would have a vocal point. Someone to express our views on the running of the site to. The moderator would welcome new users and be able to post threads that go straight to the top of the board and remain there, i.e: match threads and transfer gossip. I said to him in my initial post that I would possibly take the role if it was really needed in order to keep the forum running. However, in light of the reply, I personally think that there is no need for a moderator, we all get on well and already post the threads mentioned above. We all welcome new users and have no need for a vocal point. So for the benefit of getting this sorted once and for all, what do you want in terms of a moderator. Do we need one or not? Depending on the outcome, I will either let Syd know that we appreciate his offer but do not need one or we will appoint one. Sorry to go on about this, but personally I do not want Captain feeling awkward about posting on here. COYW
Right now, I don't feel we need a moderator. The only need we'd have for one is to deal with WUMs and we don't get all that many of them. I feel we've got a very good community here with people who's opinion I value. If someone wants to be our admin assistant and sticky posts, they're welcome to - but I think we're good as we are.
I've avoided these threads as I have to admit I'd have no intention of volunteering to be a moderator so there was the chance of cant and hypocrisy on my part. I'm a bit older than many of you and I've done a lot of unpaid stuff in my life because no one else would do it (various union posts, social stuff etc.,) and it's time to take a rest from all that. Seeing as the topic seems to be causing anxiety I agree with you froggie and the commodore, that if it seems to be working without one let's carry on. The commodore seems to suspect that although this is being described as an easy task (this remains to be seen) it is likely to detract a little from an enjoyable hobby and I think his instincts may be right.
I agree that for now we don't need one. There's probably about 15 of us who post regularly, we're all very friendly regardless of whether we agree or disagree on certain issues and there have not been many WUMs at all (if any). Therefore, there seems to be very little justification for a moderator. However, I would say that if such a situation arises where we need one, then we should probably have a few people doing it. If being a moderator mainly involves welcoming new users and giving us a voice to the site organisers, then as the fulham forum gets bigger so will the responsibilities. Just writing a welcome message to new users or raising concerns with the site will take time. Clearly many of us don't have this spare time, so if there is a need for a moderator, then the responsibilities should be shared. I think this however is a debate for another day, as while the number of users has been steadily growing since we moved to not606, it has yet to reach a point where the responsibilities of a moderator seem to be necessary. When this point arrives, having a few people would be better than 1 I think, just to make sure there is as little pressure as possible on any of the potential moderators.
I guess if the board gets out of control at some point - which seems unlikely in this group - we can contact the guy and install someone as the moderator.
Agreed with DR- we seem to be coping just fine at the moment, and were hardly overwhelmed with either WUMs or newbies!
And cyprussyd has replied to Froggy's question on the other thread, saying we don't need a mod if we don't want one. It sounds like we are all agreed: for the time being we don't bother with a mod. And my apologies if I've done anything to make more drama out of all this than it needed. Let's get back to football.
I have to say its been a pleasure seeing a grown up debate, well done to you all. Just pm me if things change and by the way, board header, take a look at other boards, Sunderland, Newcastle, gooners, United and you will see the kind of thing. If you decide on one let me know. If you find what you want it must be at least about 1600 pixels wide
All sorted then, back to business as usual. Here's hoping for some ' grown up ' discussions. He He !!!!!!!!!! Cheers Syd.
While I miss some of the banter on 606, the WUMs on the statue, Wolves on Danny, Anti-Roy scousers etc just got out of hand. This is just so more civilised, as evidenced by the above. Let's hope to avoid the need for a mod for as long as it is viable. And thanks to Syd!
Honestly, GeraScores, the loss of a little banter is a small price to pay for the end of the barrage of generic threads about the Sky Four that had every Premiership team in the description. I hated those with a passion.
I have brought this thread back because with the board growing, the new season coming and change of manager you could attract the odd unwelcome guest. Do you want that mod now and if so who wants to do the job? I like a mod because even if he never does a thing at least he is there but its up to you boys and girls.
