Of course not. His function is to find spaces into which no pass can penetrate and to watch opponents as they pass through our midfield whilst shouting at Sturridge because he doesn't use his pace to track runs down to our corner flag.
I think it depends how you're looking at it; from how you think we should play versus what BR wants us to do. IMO, Gerrard should track the run, as he and Lucas (or whoever) should do in every game. However, BR clearly tells them not to since none of our midfielders do it. By the same token, our CBs never step out either (in a four). We hold our line and keep our shape. Sakho stepping out created the space. As I said, depends how you view it. You can't blame Gerrard when (IMO) he was following team instructions.
