The official reason it carries more of a sentence is that by incapacitating a police officer/fireman/paramedic etc. whatever, compromises the effectiveness of our emergency services. By slapping some div kid in the street for opening his mouth, generally you're doing the community a favour (that bit's not official). I see what you're saying with the hefty punishment considering people get away scott-free with most things nowadays, it's a pathetic criminal justice system we have in this country but they will make examples out of people who plead not guilty when they are bang to rights like this fat idiot, because ultimately he needs to be punished for wasting time that could be better spent elsewhere. I'd much prefer we just let the horse kick that **** in the face a few times and let him be on his way.
