If I didn't know better i'd say he got a diploma in "Charismatic speaking" from Liverpool uni ...having been tutored by a pickled egg other Alumni include Dalglish, Lawro and Moyes.
I'm not a reader of autobiographies, rarely penned by the person who's book it is, SAF in his interview Sky are showing said he had to ring and apologise to Sam Allardyce for being omitted when he'd instructed his publisher to do so but they forgot! Wouldn't happen if you wrote it yourself Fergie! but anyway, perhaps someone who is a reader could enlighten me to other managers books, I'd be amazed if none previously haven't revealed and told a story about something humourous or otherwise in the locker room.
This could be heading for a 'books you'll never read' tangent, titles like... A Guide of British Nursing Homes by Wayne Rooney Diplomacy and Correctness by Paulo DiCanio ...you get the drift!
What I don't understand is why Fergie could not defer publication of his biog until at least the summer. The timing is not good for Man Utd, he hardly needs instant cash, and the publisher is guaranteed sales whenever the release occurred.
by the summer Utd will have swept all aside and won all competitions under Moyes. At that point Fergie would be just a distant nightmare and nobody would remember him and therefore wouldn't buy his book
I actually agree with Rodgers for once, surprisingly. He'll probably get slaughtered by various media figures for daring to have a pop at Ferguson, though.
I've had exactly the same thought over the last couple of days, the timing imo is appalling, or is it, is it SAF's idea of taking some of the focus on all things Old Trafford atm. Probably not as this release date must have been discussed some time ago. Whether Moyes was doing well or not, this timing was never going to do him a favour. Look at Rooneys interview last night, very good individual performance in a CL game and gets asked about SAF's book.
He's got to stick up for him really, hasn't he? The best option would probably be to say that he doesn't care about what Fergie wrote and neither does Gerrard but he hasn't got many options. Never bother with football books usually. I'm going to make an exception and hope I'll get around to reading Redknapp's book in the new year. If I enjoy that then I might go for SAF's too but I get the feeling that it will make me angry and I don't want end up shouting at a book.
Martin Samuel who co-wrote Harry's latest book, said they didn't have the say on when their book was released, it was the decision of the publishers. And the publishers obviously release a book when it suits them best commercially.
Are we suggesting that : Publishers > Fergie ?? Wait til he learns about that. But of all the people, I would have thought he could have dictated terms on when publication could be done. His is the football biog most publishers would kill for, so a bit of patience would not harm them. But we don't have the full picture (this could have been something planned and advances paid ages ago but completion repeatedly delayed for a number of years etc) .
Not a fan of most of his articles but I do like Samuel on Sunday Supplement. He said a couple of weeks back that the legal team had to take a few things out, bloody lawyers you can bet those were the best bits. Yeah, can't blame Fergie for the timing. Waiting a year would see the bubble of interest in him die down, the publishers will always have wanted it out this year.
It was on that same Sunday Supplement programme that he said this about not having too much influence on when the book came out. If you remember, it was put to him that Harry might have manipulated the date so as to undermine Woy in the week before the double header WC qualifiers.
It didn't take long for someone to pipe up about Ferguson breaking the dressing room omerta - although I would've presumed Dalglish would've been the one to do it, for obvious reasons.
Interesting comment from BMJ after what Ferguson said in his book Obviously never expected Santini to last long then! I know he expected to be appointed Manager, but still acceptd the job as Assistant here. And this was after turning down Utd?
BMJ is effectively saying he could not operate as a Fergie underling. It takes a particular temperament I guess (AVB as an Jose underling etc) .
Firstly I'm not so sure about "revealed" - I remember reading to Ceefax that MUPLC were offering Jol the assistant job at the time. Also, the way I recall it was that Arnesen identified Jol as the man for the job, but then Levy got cold feet and decided a "big name" was in order so offered the job to Santini as well, which led to a crowded dugout as Santini was manager, Hughton assistant manager, and Jol had some nonsensical job title.
