Fergie Jnr is a tough one.
Seems to have found a place for himself at Peterborough where he fits perfectly but struggled at Preston. PTC says he signed a lot of up & coming potential who turned out to be stars, which is true so is that him or some wonderful scouting network? His coaching team does seem to be able to polish them up abit to be fair. Peterborough may be entertaining to watch but a bit like a Holloway team you know they cant/ wont defend. If we went into a game knowing we needed a point then I wouldnt be confident that we wouldnt lose 9-8!

Parkinson I havent really followed. If MM does leave then Mowbray or Tisdale would be my choices. Both have potential flaws but are the characters and play the style with which I associate with Town.

I don't think that Holloway would be a good fit for us.......... but i do think that Palace should have shown a little more gratitude....he got them up with a very average team IMO and i think he should have been given the time to give it a go in the PL.

I used to think he would but think he's made a pigs ear of it at Palace this season. He did an outstandinh job at Blackpool and did pretty well to get up with CP but they brought in too many players over the summer, they changed things too fast, I don't think they would've stayed up but by buying that many players I think you cause more problems. By in large he kept faith with the players who had got him promoted at Blackpool which was admirable and nearly worked. I agree it seems harsh on Palaces behalf but it seems it was Holloways decision, highlighted in this BBC article, also which he seems to admit he changed things too quickly, it seems Owen Garvan was right!!!

I thought it was brilliant. I can't think of anyone I would rather have in the PR dugout.

We have never seen a press conference like it. The honesty and integrity of the man is incredible.

when he first burst onto the scene as a manager i found him extremely entertaining - some of his quotes were great although it wasn't until he arrived at blackpool that his team also entertained. and you're right, his honesty and integrity cannot be questioned but his managerial ability certainly can. to be honest, now i just think he's a bit of a clown, so he might well fit in at the circus that is ipswich town ;)

He's taken two clubs up in just a few years! Blackpool were bloody brilliant. Palace never had a hope this season. He needs a break for a month or two and then I think he'd be an ideal fit.

blackpool weren't 'bloody brilliant'! they were entertaining but they were a total shambles at times. they should never have been relegated that season with the platform they had with their early season form. he does a good job of getting a host of players who are deemed 'failures' at previous clubs and give them a second chance but he's hit and miss as a manager. he completely lost the palace dressing room according to the man himself. he signed players for millions and then left them completely out of his 25 man squad. i believe he's become a caricature of himself in the past few years and it's verging on embarrassing at times. some people, such as yourself by the sounds of things, get suckered in by his 'routines' but most people can see through it these days. i didn't realise this before but he lost more games than he won as palace boss - this despite a promotion season!

Got to agree with you supers.

Anway, Palace were cruising until freedman left and hollo took charge, then they just struggled to get in the playoffs. don't want him anywhere near portman road.

he's not a **** manager - far from it - but his reputation seems to be built upon funny anecdotes, probably to cover up the flimsy tactics.

No, not saying he is ****, but to laud him up about getting palace up like some people are doing is just plain silly.

Get a bit of perspective. Ipswich have been in the second tier now for how many years? 11? 12? This is a man who has achieved twice in just a few years what Joe Royle, Jim Magilton, Roy Keane, Paul Jewell and so far Mick McCarthy have failed to do with us. I'm not saying Holloway is the best manager in the world but Ipswich is not a place for a psychotic like Keane. Holloway has all the attributes I would want associated with our club.

Crystal Palace had a squad of average Championship players. Holloway put it in nicer terms but essentially he said he doesn't believe in the squad of players (that he's had for less than a year) and I don't think anyone else believed that squad would be anything other than whipping boys.

We would all look for different things if we were going to appoint a manager. For me the main attributes are someone with integrity, passion and graft just like our two previous great managers and our precious very good manager.

To be frank, we badly need a bit of a dreamer who shares our vision of an Ipswich Town with five or six first teamers and has a team of scouts who are relentless in their pursuit of the right players to represent us.

I can't remember whether it was Jewell or Keane, but someone was trying to sign players purely on the basis that they were available! I'm also tired of this 'we're doing alright' apathy we've had since Roy Keane and which is still perpetuating. if Ipswich Town are outside the top flight we are not doing alright.

We need all that blown to pieces.

Hampy, you bring up about Holloway taking up Crystal Palace, If anybody needs to take credit for that then step forward dougie freedman, they were walking it until holloway took charge and then they only managed to crawl into the playoffs.

Im not saying he is ****, but he himself said he was tired and needed a break, that to me is enough alarm bells to steer well clear.

Have to agree with Guru on this. Holloway was the man that got Palace up but he nearly scuppered their chances. He also appears to have gone mad in the summer. Signing players that arent deeemed good enough for their final 25 & not appearing to have much cash but splasing 6m on Dwight Gayle. Poor signing policy all round for me.
I will give him alot of credit for what he acheived to get Blackpool up but then in the premier league they were entertaining but they had one tactic - hope you can score 3 because you know you will concede at least 2. Its not really the basis of a long term plan although it would probably be an enjoyable experience to start with!

Jeepers creepers. Well, be careful what you wish for. Let's carry on gradually building for the long term like we have for the last five years and recruit someone predictable like Mowbray (assuming Mick is off that is) <ok>

We all have an opinion on a hypothetical manager for a hypothetical situation so how about something concrete, how many of you are coming to Bolton for Saturdays match?
