Adebayor set to start.

Nothing to lose I suppose, looking forward to seeing what kind of performance he puts in, anyone following him on Twitter will notice he's been making the right noises about his future at the club.

Adebayor has travelled as has Lennon, good news is Walker, Paulinho, Townsend have not and are rested. Capoue, Kaboul, Rose, all still not fit.

    Adebayor starts...?

Looks like we won't be scoring tonight then!

Nah jokes aside I hope he does well, it'll be good to have two strikers giving Soldado a push for a place in the side. Competition brings out the best in people.

    With stuff like :

On our way lol Moldova lol

it looks like a case of full-blown Bennyitus to me (perhaps that is who he is
on his way to Moldova with - be a nice surprise for AVB when the rest of the
    squad reach their hotel) .

I've stuck up for Ade a lot over the last year but I think it's been badly misplaced. The only reason I'd want Ade to play for us again is to try and get some interest for us to sell him in January, otherwise I'd pick Kane ahead of him.

    Something like -

    -----------------Friedel----------------

    Naughton----Daws----Vlad---Fryers

    ---------Dembele---Erikson---------

    Lamela------------------------Chadli

    -----------Defoe---Ade-------------

    Should work well -

Enough wing work to allow both Lamela and Chadli to get on the ball and get confident
    Lots of possesion for Erriksen
Both Ade and Defoe get someone to play off rather than running the channels themselves

This team should be sufficiently weak for us to seize the initiative with a 4-4-2, with Daws coming for long ball headers, and Vlad clearing up behind.

Yeah I too would rather Kane.

Ade only showed effort in the last 3 or 4 games of last season. Kane may not be anywhere as good but the guy wants to be here and seems to always give his all. Giving him minutes against Sheriff is vital for his development.

Getting rid of Ade is vital for our balance sheet though SoS.

We need a viable third striker, and we can't really warrent that whilst Ade is still on the payroll.

Kane could be good, but can't be relied on atm.

    CHIVERS ON DEFOE

Martin Chivers says if anyone is going to take his European goalscoring record, he’s happy for it to be Jermain Defoe.

The in-form JD is in Moldova with the squad as we prepare for this evening’s Europa League Group K match against FC Sheriff, knowing that he is one goal away from Chiv’s 22-goal European total – a club record.

Having scored in both our Group K fixtures so far – the 3-0 win at home to Tromso IL and the 2-0 victory against Anji Makhachkala – JD knows that two goals tonight will see him overtake Big Chiv as our all-time top marksman in Europe.

And Martin, who won the UEFA Cup with us in 1972, says he’s proud of Jermain as he closes in on a history-making goal.

“I’m pleased for him to be quite honest,” said Chiv. “If I’m going to let any record go that I’ve got here, I don’t mind letting it go to Jermain Defoe, who is a great goalscorer.

“I’ve always sung his praises. I wouldn’t like to leave my record to somebody who I feel has been lucky – I don’t think he’s been that lucky at all. I think he’s earned everything he’s done, and he’s scored a load of goals in Europe, so good luck to him.”

The magnitude of being in a position to break our European goalscoring record is not lost on JD, and although he admits he’s feeling fresh after coming on for the closing moments of Sunday’s 2-0 win at Aston Villa in the Premier League, he’s under no illusions about what he’ll have to do to bag that landmark goal, whether that’s tonight or at some point down the line.

“I bumped into him (Martin) after the West Ham game and I said to him I was trying to avoid him!” joked JD.

“Maybe I’ll score – we’ll see what happens really. Obviously it would be nice if it happens, and if it doesn’t I’ll hopefully do it in the next game.

“I’m quite looking forward to it as I haven’t played for a while. I feel quite fresh to be fair, hopefully I’ll get the chance to do it – it’ll be good but you don’t want to be totally focussed on that because you don’t want to just think ‘I need to break the record’ and be too tense, so I’ll just relax and if it happens, I’ll be avoiding Chivs!”

I think Kane can be relied upon for games like this mate. League games perhaps not yet but we'd have to be desperately unlucky to lose Soldado and Defoe simultaneously to result in Kane having to start.

In fairness, although brief, his sub appearance against Cardiff was pretty impressive. Was playing in from the left and made a few good passes and I think he tested Marshall with a shot. Maybe giving him the chance in a proper first team match may see him up his game.

The likes of Townsend and Livermore have proved they're more than capable of holding their own when playing in League games where the pressure is higher and more demanding.

Me too, he's been in more last chance saloons than John Wayne, and I don't know if this is one or not, or as you say, advertising for Jan. He should consider the value we're getting for his pay.

I agree, I think he would do a fine job in Ade's place. However I don't see him as a long term prospect, and would rather see Ade play well so we can sell him and get a another number 3 in.

Kane hasn't proven himself at this level in the way Walker, Naughton, Rose or Townsend did so there are questions being asked of him.

In an ideal world we would sell Ade, get in someone like Hernandez and loan Kane to Palace/Hull/cardiff/WBA type team, and him score 20+ goals.

I agree with this team SG although maybe start Lennon as well. I'd rather have him getting fit and ready than trying to get Chadli up to speed. I'm not as negative as Boss about him but for me a fit Lennon is a much more important player for us then Chadli right now.
Also I would have liked us to start a youth centre back. It may be a gamble but I wish we wouldn't risk Dawson for a game like this, he needs to be fresh for Hull at the weekend. Even if we have a slightly dodgy defence with our options in attack we should still have enough. Even if we lose I'm confident we will comfortably win our group.
