I was never sure what A2C meant by Daily Malice. Daily Mail, Daily Mirror or Nick's contributions? Maybe Charlton Pat or Red Flag will return and tell me.
Personally, I don't read any newspapers other than the non-league football rag - which is excellent, by the way. But I'm sure most people who refer to the Daily Mail as the Malice or the Fail are trying to be political in some sense, as if readers of that particular paper are Nazis or some other bigoted race. I hear it all the time, but have never bothered to look into it - or the Daily Mail, for that matter. Strange, methinks.
Some people are more comfortable when they can attach labels to others, like "Guardian Reader"; "Daily Mail Reader", "Sun Reader"; "Doom and Gloom Merchants"; lazy thinking I call it.
I buy the Daily Mail without fail every day, and am pleased to do so. It is the voice of civilised England.
If you like the Daily Mail you'd love Private Eye. It's "Street of Shame" section always has plenty of insights into Paul Dacre's organ. Also the Mail Online's penchant for 15-year-old girls.
I agree, FHB: Stereo-typing is the last bastion of the feeble-minded. Guardian readers do tend to be utter twats, though
There was also an excellent piece of investigative journalism in the "Eye" about "THE MAN WHO HATED(paying taxes in) BRITAIN", about the Mail's proprietor, Lord Rothermere.
Totally agree. It is contemptible to write off a swathe of our fellow citizens simply by attaching a label. I call people who do that "Labellers". To the salt mines with the lot of them!
