After listening to recent Open all R's podcast, prompted me to think about who I would have in my select 5-a-side team. Who would you guys pick? I can only really go for 1990 onwards as that's when I first started supporting them: GK - Paddy Kenny - great shot stopper and reflex keeper. Don't have to worry about his poor distribution Defender - Paul Parker - just about makes it into the 90's. All rounder, correct body type and conditioning for 5-a-side. Midfield (D) - Alessandro Faurlin - good football brain, strong tackler and good vision. Midfield (A) - Trevor Sinclair - Good pace, supports strikers well and eye for goal. Forward - Adel Tarrabt - would imagine he would make most peoples starting 5 cos of his quick feet, ability to take players on and fondness for shooting. He would be a defenders nightmare in 5-a-side.
I think this is just about the side which won the London Evening Standard 5 a side tournament in 73 or 74. Bushman will know. What happened to that competition? Great night out. Probably too scared to run it now because of injuries.
Didn't Aussie post a picture of that side on a thread a few weeks ago? Have to root around in the archives to find it..... They always used to show it on Sportsnight or the ITV equivalent way before S** came on the scene and gave us blanket coverage.....can't really imagine a Prem club putting in any side to such a comp these days, but back in the 70's they were nearly all 1st team players taking part.....
Cerny Zesh Rehman Razor ruddock Vinne Jones Mike Sheron OR Parkes Parker Venebles / Sinclair (?) Sir Les Bowles We could actually make some really bad teams too.......
