I am a fan of protecting British culture ( no need to be squeamish by putting it in inverted commas). But it needs to be protected from poncy anally-retentive ****s as well as self-loathing xenophiles (that's a bubble word btw).
Sympathies for your son, but you don't seem to understand that many, many things can trigger asthma attacks, from dust mites to pollen, from common ailment drugs to extreme emotions, from types of food to specific weather conditions. My son suffers particularly from conditions when levels of oxygen are reduced either by very damp conditions or very dry or when the air quality is very poor like when it is full of smoke. So for anyone to say that smoke can be non-asthmatic, you are talking bollox, it just isn't true. But that isn't the real point. The real point is that you can never guarantee that even if there was such a thing as an asthma-friendly smoke bomb, that that would be the type that would be used.
There certainly seems to be an atmosphere in this video in a ground smaller than the KC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ndV-zZRVCA&sns=em Maybe there are no Greeks with respiratory problems and who are prone to panic and stampeding. Whilst they are all fire ******ant. I have never seen any mention of casualties at Aris games so it ca't be as dangerous to let a few flares off as some suggest when the amount on the video are let off with no problem. Not to mention all the paper streamers being thrown at the same time.
The guarantee of the type is the main point. But they seem to manage abroad. And their smoke bombs don't cause problems to anyone. Of course they are organised in this and often have the cooperation of the police and authorities. Something which is unlikely here.
It's all a bit "European" though isn't it? As a British traditionalist, I'm not sure I can get behind it. Should we go the whole hog and have card displays before games etc?
It's odd that no one on here has said that they have taken a smoke bomb to a match. In fact no has said that they even know someone who has.
Something needs doing to improve the sterile atmosphere at football nowadays. Ironic that back in the 60s and 70s we were renowned for the atmosphere at our grounds and most Europeans were viewed as being staid. In fact the Europeans started off by imitating what was going on in our grounds.
Is this your new home then Reg, after your bigoted views got you shown the door on the City Independent forum. Don't fancy your chances of lasting long on here. Go on, start one of your threads on Chombies, I could do with a laff.
The Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985. It is on offence for a person to enter or attempt to enter a football ground while in possession of a flare, smoke bomb or firework. The sentence for these offences can be as much as three months in prison, and in many cases, fans who have no previous convictions are being given prison sentences for attempting to enter a football ground with a smoke bomb in their pocket as the courts take these offences very seriously. There are two different offences (1) possession in the football ground; and (2) possession while attempting to enter. Although logically, attempting to enter a football ground seems to be less culpable than a fan who has managed to get the smoke bomb, flare or firework into the football ground, in real terms the courts do not consider one offence to be more serious than the other. Fans searched prior to entering the football ground and found to be in possession of a firework, flare or smoke bomb, have still been given custodial sentences.
The fixation with flares is simply a bit of misdirection to disguise a piss poor understanding of football. Perhaps we should label all football related threads 'off flare' (O/F). Daft thing is I love them really, still got some in the wardrobe.
Meanwhile in the HDM we reqd everyday of community aervice for kicking the living daylights out of people. Today there is one where a bloke with previous for someone's jaw has smacked someone in the eye causing serious damage and a lass who fhrew a glass in another girl's face leqding to a permanent disfigurment both being told that a jail senence is " being considered" . About time sentences showed a sentence of proportion What do you think the outcome would have been if those offences had occurred anywhere within miles of the KC on a match day?
Regardless of health issues or atmospheric improvement, this article saying that we aren't allowed them and that the police hate them is only going to cause more people to bring them to matches. In effect they've made it worse by stamping it out. We shall see on Sunday.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-fourth-official-in-expletive-laden-rant.html Charming. Obscene aggressive violent threats and a paltry 5 match stadium ban for Ince. If a fan lets off a harmless smoke bomb, all the puffs get their knickers in a twist and demand a custodial sentence. A few years ago the same turds always used to bleat "The league will dock us points" every time there was any sort of non conformist event, and of course this never happened.
And then we had some horrendous tragedies that made us think again and now we can review at leisure as folk are no longer becoming victims of supporting football. Most of us want to progess but let's remember where we have come from; it wasn't always as pretty as some would have us believe.
I can't guarantee there is an asthma free smoke bomb. However i am currently suffering from respiratory problems of my own, due to health issues, nothing hugely major, but something that has an effect on my current day to day live. I was very close to the things that went off at Everton, it had no affect on me whatsoever, which i have to admit surprised me i thought it would. It was hardly closed in, and there was very little danger from the one's at Everton. The exit's did not get blocked, there was no panic, and there was no obstruction to my viewing of the game. Saying all that, i just don't get the point. It adds nothing to the atmosphere to me, i would much rather we all held up our City Til We Die scarves, singing our hearts out so the Allams know how we feel. Singing and chanting add far more to the atmosphere than any smoke bombs or flares do in my eyes, so why can't we concentrate on that. The atmosphere in the away end was brilliant at Everton with or without the smoke bombs.
