A Rangers fan has been jailed for nine months after he was convicted of targeting Celtic manager Neil Lennon with an offensive post on Facebook. William Kilpatrick, 22, from Bannockburn, was sentenced to nine months in prison at Stirling Sheriff Court on Wednesday after he was found guilty of posting the sectarian message on the social networking site. The court heard that on April 24, 2011 after a Rangers v Celtic football match, Kilpatrick posted a message on Facebook targeting Lennon which was of an offensive, threatening and sectarian nature. The message urged people to send bombs and bullets to the Parkhead boss. Lennon and lawyer Paul McBride QC, who died last year, were sent suspicious packages containing an explosive device and bullets the week before Kilpatrick sent the post. Speaking following the hearing Faith (Taig name) Millar, The Crown Office and Procurator Fisacal Service (COPFS) Football Liaison Prosecutor for the East of Scotland, said: "The vast majority of football supporters in Scotland are dedicated and enthusiastic and find behaviour such as this abhorrent and totally unacceptable. âCOPFS are absolutely committed to the investigation and prosecution of those either being involved in or promoting sectarianism, religious offences and related threatening behaviour, disorder and violence.â
William Kilpatrick? What did you expect from someone called that Dev? It sounds like that Dickensian thing where the names denote the character.
"Get mair bullets and bombs sent boys, Glasgow Rangers Champions." Heard worse but anyone stupid enough to post things like that deserve to be in jail - or put in stocks so we can throw rotting fruit at them.
He should have tried to assault him in front full stadium, he's be a free man now! You can't really get a feel for these cases as they never write what was posted.
Why? He was encouraging people to send bombs to a man's house. What kind of nutjob would do that and why do you want them walking the streets?
