How come everyone is saying we needed him to stay there to help them get promoted. They were a poor Championship side and he got them promoted remember. I know they weren't anything special and got there through penalties and cheating but still he did a good job. He might be a daft bastard but I don't think there's any doubt he did an excellent job at Palace overall.
I think people wanted him to stay, because despite having all summer to recruit, they still started the season with Delaney at the back and Wilbraham upfront.
Some people are quick to critisize Holloway, he's a good bloke who has been honest in saying he's tired & can't do the job anymore. He took an average team up & he made Blackpool the darlings of the PL.
He's been hyped way above his competence level, enjoyed by the snobbish metropolitan media then spat out with contempt as a provincial thick when they've tired of the berk. Jog on.
Usual hate filled post from Aggers. Did a good job getting two small clubs up to the premier league. People laughing at his transfer dealings!!! Dont you think he will have wanted to replace Delaney etc but didnt have the money given to him??
Agreed. He also did a pretty good job at Plymouth before leaving for Leicester (where he did **** up). I’ve nowt against him and in my opinion, he has achieved a great deal in his career whilst also ****ing up upon occasion. – people do. He’s still achieved much more than many managers ever will. Also, I prefer him to have his own accent instead of some RP ****e.
He's a self effacing tit, who spoke down about Hull saying Blackpool wouldn't be **** like us, then got relegated first season. Which was hilarious. He took a pretty decent team formed by Freedman that were performing well and looking good for challenging for auto promotion and turned it into a team that scraped through the playoffs with a remarkable amount of luck. His transfer dealings (coming in) were shambolic and the resulting team weren't good enough to compete (and still aren't) in the PL.
Oh yeah, totally got the wrong meaning of that one. Funny how you have some phrases in your head and get it wrong. Probably meant to say "self promoting".
His cheating Palace team fluked promotion and now he's been found out, so he's pleading 'exhaustion'. The dire Pulis is being lined up to replace him, so the results may improve but not the quality or integrity.
Colin has said that we will never manage again. He is being lined up for the D.O.F. job @ Birmingham if the take over is completed. Palace are sh it. They have only beaten Sunderland who are bottom on 1 point. Both clubs are where they are for a very good reason. No quality and No passion/pride. Cardiff for me. I expect Norwich to just pip them on saturday and that should be the bottom 3 sorted out. Fingers crossed eh ? 8 games - 16 games in wont make any difference. SAF could not save Palace with what they have. By the time January comes along they will on a par with Derby a fews years back. Looks like his new signings dont like his methods. At least IH has had the good grace to fall on his sword. I will be very surpsied to see Pulis take that job. Maybe Alan Curbishley will apply as he hates leaving London.
The way I see it, Sunderland are a bit of a mess but in theory have a squad that could put a run together and survive. Too early to write them off. Palace - the quality just isn't there. Unless they appoint Merlin or Harry Potter, they're going down.
Check Slumberlands fixtures before January. Where is the next point coming from ? Even the Mackems are fearing the worst. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/sunderland/fixtures Even Gus Poyet says that Sunderland are unbalanced www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24615497
It's tough but not terrifying - and January looks softer for them. Don't get me wrong: I think they'll go down. But loads of teams have started poorly and pulled it together over the years and it's not impossible that they could become another.
Interesting bookies' odds to go down: Palace 1/10 Sunderland 4/7 Cardiff 2/1 Tigers 9/4 (seems harsh - price possibly lagging lower than it should due to so many odds-on pre-season bets against us) Norwich 3/1 Stoke 4/1 (tempting!) Fulham 9/2 West Ham 15/2 Newcastle 9/1 WBA 10/1
Latest betting... Tony Pulis 1/2 Avram Grant 10/1 Neil Warnock 16/1 Karl Robinson 20/1 Roberto Di Matteo 25/1
