Well I apologise if I caused offence it was not intended and I'd hope you could see this, it was a fairly flippant remark that I geuss if taken in its literal sense could be offensive. Perhaps next time you feel someone is ignorant to a situation they may be more understanding of your offence if you explained why without being patronising. Lets please just draw a line under it. <thumbs up>

Offensive to who exactly? Being offended is subjective, so one person may find something offensive, someone else may not. You (others) have no right to tell others not to use a word/expression simply because it offends you. Your offended, get over it. No one is belittling people with an abnormal brain function/disability, it was a general term used every day.

Hampy if you are a carer then I will be the first to salute you and your endeavours but because you are from the left of the political spectrum it doesn't make you the only one with the capability of compassion. Under Labour I seem to remember the Mid Staffs crisis taking place for example.

I don't think so, do read back your own comments that I responded to.

I am not a carer, I happen to have first hand experience, yes by that I mean first hand experience and I had some incredibly dark times and experiences subsequent to the London tube bombings which I survived, and then a coach crash a few months later followed by a mugging at knifepoint a few yards from my front door. I won't go into detail about what I experienced but I can tell you it wasn't pleasant and I still have horrible moments when I can be driving along the motorway and visualise skeletons on the carriageway. I also temped in the department of psychiatry at the Royal London Hospital for two years so got to know patients who believed they had insects crawling in their mouths and over their faces and others who were so desperate they took their own lives. I also, like Spanish, have family who are in that line of work.

People need help, encouragement and sometimes a kick up the backside to pull themselves out of it and the most damaging thing that anyone can do is label someone who is perfectly fine with such a condition. In this case, of course, Roy Keane will never read it, but I still feel I should point out something that I deem to be a pretty serious misguided comment.

There are some unbelievably moronic posts now (not naming any names stretchy). Unfortunately some people are so far up their own backsides they are beyond all hope.

Hampy I can't even begin to comprehend what has happened to you and all I can do is try and empathise. The terminology that PTC used may have been incorrect but it was not meant to be taken in a derogatory way I am sure of that. I think we all need to calm down and just stick to chatting about football.

Moron - a term originally used In psychology to denote mild mental ******ation.

    Double standards me thinks.
    Now I'm offended!

I think many of us on here have had first hand experience of mental health issues either personally or close friends/relatives suffering and i don't think anyone has really made any offensive comments to justify the direction of this thread, i'm sure we have all made comments that could be interpreted to be 'politically Uncorrect'
but we are all grown up enough to read things in the manner that they were written.

I shouldn't have to post something like that for people to be sensitive and think a little. (As far as I know) we're not children on here and that is really my point about whether it's my experience, or that of someone I know, or no-one I know it doesn't really make a difference. I know what PTC is getting at and it really didn't upset me that much. I just felt it important to express why I felt obliged to pull him up on it.

Good idea WCP, lets talk about MM, ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz maybe not!!

    PTC
I actually never took offence, just pointed out that i didn't think that RK had lost touch with reality. So as far as im concerned there was no need to apologise, you can however apologise for all the other dissing in the past if you like, LOL!!!
