Kj some people here make up their mind on a player and thats it, im guessing all clubs have the same people, i can safely say i praise and critisize in equal krasjer, least i try to ! What the overall thing for me is that the more people moan about a certain player the more it ends up on the terraces and then you have negative energi and a player too Frightened to play his normal game for fear of ridicule, i se sed something similar with pablo last season but to his credit and as swanselona correctly pointed out he played through it and kept playing his game regardless. We see the same with JDG i have been as harsh as anybody on his lack of tracking and spade work but There comes a time when you accept the player for what he is and start to look at the more positive aspects of hos game. Some people like to bang out the same line but that isnt going to serve much of a purpose except to create negative energi when the player is on the field. This is just my personal opinion by the way and i cant back up my mini physcology ! I have still not seen anybody Counter the point of him losing us more games than he wins though. All the players have strengths and weaknesses, i also said a few days back on this thread that laudrup doesnt want all his players running around he wants them using their energi in the right parts of the field, this is important to laudrup, its how we play under him, being explosive in the final 3rd when we can
Well I agree with that. As you say, every player in our team - hell, in the world - has a negative side to his game. When the negative outweighs the positive he finds himself dropped, and rightly so, but at the moment it's the other way around for JDG so he deserves his place. Under Laudrup he scored 8 last season and was top in assists. To say "he's not a team player" is garbage I'm afraid, because this form got him a call-up for one of the top countries in Europe - a team that's ranked 8th in the world. This season he's also contributed positively. I think that we as fans have to learn to put up with JDG's faults because he's bringing so much more to the team - a team where we are woefully short of players who can do what he did on Saturday.
I try to do the same, I praise when its needed, such as his goal on the weekend, against Valencia and what not, his forward play when he makes a different, such as times last season e.g the 1st goal v arsenal at the emirattes, the goal against Chelsea and what not. But I will also criticise his mistakes. But as things are, I am not criticising his mistakes, I am criticising something he is basically flat out refusing to do. Which is not a mistake. That there is the difference. I along with you have stuck up for Pablo from the off, its clear he has the ability, and it wasn't quite coming off for him, it seemed mainly down to a lack of confidence, but even then, he never stopped trying, which is what made me realise that it's about picking up his confidence. And I do believe the criticism was unwarranted. But I do not feel the same with JDG, he is for me an enigma. He HAS the ability to track back and defend, as mentioned he was doing it last season, and was playing that well, that he was fast becoming a huge favourite at the club, which was all the more impressive due to him being a loan signing. But the adulation, along with international call ups, for me, turned his head to a point where he is only willing to focus on what he wants to do, which we know is that he loves to get forward. And is fast losing my admiration based on his lack of effort to help in defensive roles. Which no-one in the team, other than the striker (in some situations) should be part of. Thats the problem, its not that he can't do it, he can do it. He has already done it many times in a swans shirt. Cast your eyes back to the first half 3/5's of last season. I agree and disagree, if a player is getting criticised for mistakes, and is a confidence thing, then no, it will not help, but if a player is lacking the effort, then fans getting on your back, may entice you to show a bit more enthusiasm in the defensive part of our team play. The good old "**** em up, get into them" chant rings a few bells. I accept that its your opiniopn, and respect your opinion, I just don't agree with it lol
Nicely put but what you still fail to understand is that you dont know the full facts,Neither do i by the way, it may well be that he has been told not to run around chasing the ball but to be the first man on it when we win it back ? Laudrup told DG that his energi should be spent trying to score and burst through rather than running around and ending up half a yard behind the cross when it comes in because he is out of puff, how many times did we see that when DG was playing ? You Think he is lazy,he might well be but you havent considered that his role might well be to not be chasing and defending but being our garanteed out ball to set up Counter attacks. There Are plenty of small details that go a miss to us fans because we Are not on the training ground but on the terraces. Mark gower is a classic example, not many fans rated him but every manager loved him ! Probably because he carries out the small details very well and played to instruction, most fans would groan when he was selected but the amount of games he played meant that There was plenty of unseen Stuff going on from him. Maybe laudrup knows his weak point is tackling so instead of giving away daft free kicks his player is passed onto somebody that can tackle. Your basing your opinion on him being lazy but maybe its his job to not commit and to then just shadow, we saw what happened when he dived in to a tackle against Arsenal ,if he stayed on his feet and kept tracking then maybe the goal would not have been scored ? Like i keep saying the good points out weigh the bad points but we dont know if his bad points Are by design or default
No we don't hence the discussion lol. But then, the same could be said about you defending him based on the assumption that it maybe down to the role he is asked to play, but what if that's not the role he is asked to do, what if he is asked to track back, but fails to do it, we don't know. Maybe your right that his good do outweigh the bad, and that's why Laudrup has selected him, or it could explain why he has only 3 premier league starts this season, and why he has seemingly preferred Shelvey up until now in the Prem who has had 7 starts.
Did you know? De Guzman netted a fine goal for the Swans and overall mustered three shots (two on target, one off), more than any other player at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.
I reckon he's our new Mark Gower!......................... Anyway what you old boots know, can be written on a postage stamp, and I'm told that's fact, as Dai told me!................ please log in to view this image
The reason IMO that he only has 3 starts is more to with him 1. being injured, bit difficult to play against the likes of Man utd when your knocked out cold training for Holland... 2, starting late in pre-season . Im not defending him on any assumption, yet again i will go to my origional point, he has won us more games than he has lost us,that is not an assumption that is a fact, i dont recall him being personally responsible for a defeat but i do recall him winning us games , hence his good side out weighs his bad side Its a concept your maybe struggling with, im giving you examples of Laudrups thinking like with DG but your avoiding stuff like that and thinking that his laziness is the ultimate in Evil ! Overall his apparent laziness is not affecting results or team balance when he plays, just because a player doesnt run around like a headless chicken doesnt mean he isnt contributing to the team and results . Wasnt he second highest scorer last season ? Wasnt he highest in assists ? Obviously to some people running around alot and tackling is far more important than scoring and making goals...thankfully Michael Laudrup see's the benifit of having a goal scoring midfielder and not a team of runners, we do after all have a defence and defensive midfielder to these jobs
... It is a very interesting debate in fairness, in terms of laziness I guess what KJ said about him staying behind to work on his skills shows he is not as lazy as some may feel .
Perhaps he could persuade dyer, routs n couple of others to stay behind to practice crossing on the run too ?
Was ok for 90 minutes againt spurs though So make that 3 out of 7 if we are not including the united game
As i said the player came back late for preseason, we also rotate and play Europa league so its not a big suprise he hasnt played every game . You like stats so here Are some for you Apps this season in midfield Leon 8 JDG 8 Canas 8 Shelvey 10 So everybody is getting game time , it doesnt make a difference if its a prem game or Europa league they Are all important. As far as i know JDG has scored more than shelvey ,canas and britton and has also created more assists . His direct rival is shelvey and to be honest There is no comparison in the players, JDG has been far more effective and has done more with less game time
