"Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes,
of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass.
    It is terribly simple."

Unfortunately British coaching over the last 20 years or more has not taken the above wise words in to account. This is exactly what SOD is trying to instil in to the players. Players who have not been taught the above philosophy.. Sad but true.

He will probably pay the ultimate price in trying to do so, and we as a club will have to go backwards once again.

Look on the bright side we can't fall much further until we're out of league football, but what we have isn't any good, and moreover it just isn't working and will never work anyway at this level.

on the nail Ive said time over time in the past few weeks, others know it and have commented, but some see only negatives they pick up a fiver in the street and 30 mins later drop a £1 down a drain after using the fiver to buy a burger and fret about the lost £1..........

just look at our possession we are keeping the ball and while we have it they cant score, unfortunately when they do they seem to convert the 1 in 6 on target shots to rob us!

Will the top 3 keep up their form? I doubt it..LO is on target for 122 points Peterbro 121 and Wolves 120.............. BEST IN THE LAST 9 YEARS IS 101 average 89 top, and 3rd 90 ( sheff utd and still here! ) average 76

so in 30 games averaging 2 pts a game = 60 points that's the spring board of form needed to get into the championship so need 16 points on the board by game 16 =76 for sure the present top 3 are going to have at least 20 points taken away from them!

tonight lets hope we win...no ifs and no but's ...........

A legacy that created the worlds best club side 75 - 83/84. A club that did not alter from its core philosophy through Shankly - Paisley - ***an.

    Fans also cannot get it.

I read on here about ball winning centre halves, put your foot through it, can't lead a line, big man up top and on. Individuals on here would ridicule Liverpool's back passing and sideways movement when patience was needed.

What will not work anyway at this level? No idea what you are implying.

Ahhh okay, so what you are doing now is comparing SoD with the talents of one of the greatest managers in history. Kind of amazing we have him then really!

Nothing like dipping back 30 plus years in time for ideas on how to win in the current game. Thank god football hasn't changed one iota eh?

Essentially it is a simple game. A basic principle is pass and move. Many fans do not like it. Elements have moved on e.g rules even the light weight ball has created new skills.

City need to move on as well.

The principle of pass and move is being taught to kids of six and upwards entering City's player pathway at community trust level. The XI is attempting to play to feet etc. I would not tell them they are wrong to not do so.

There are many different styles in the game, there isn't lump it and hope, and then pass pass pass, backwards backwards backwards keep ball. Some teams choose the counter attacking, some focus largely on wing play and whipping in crosses, getting to the byline. Some bombard the midfield with high pressure tackling. Some clubs opt for one touch quick play, the alternatives go on and on.

The principle of pass and move is one I like, players attacking space, always moving. That certainly isn't what I see at our club. I see a lot of passing passing passing but no real movement, zero penetration. Baldock at times looks hungry, fresh and a couple of steps ahead of the move in his runs, but doesn't get the pass, we prefer to go backwards and draw out the opposition. Well primary school children could work out fairly quickly that if they are 1-0 up and the opposition want to p*** about with it in their own half between the dodgy defenders, go ahead we'll sit right back and absorb pressure as they don't know what to do with the ball when they have it.

Either the players aren't clever enough to implement what SoD is telling them, or SoD is sticking with a very unimaginative game plan that teams have worked out a long time ago!

City were clearly playing pass and move at Port Vale. Vale fans thought City were the best team they had seen this season. Do that more often its wins. As some say simple as, only it isn't when you get a Shrewsbury putting the entire team behind the ball.

Point was right we have fans who would crucify even great teams if they didn't get their result and goals on time.

Remind me again just how many points have we picked up using this age old strategy? Football as you say is not the same today, as in yesteryear, but for goodness sake we should be better that what we are right now, and it may have passed you by but we are not doing too well.

Have a look at the offence for the penalty v Crewe and the goal v Port Vale a game City dominated [they really did]. Cut that out and? Nothing is passing the level headed by, but do what occurred v Crewe/ Port Vale it will be even harder to get any result. Cut it out and they are on their way.

I like this passing game we have taken on, but we are missing one vital point and that's we don't create space. Space is what will open up teams, it's always knock it about at the back, no problem if we are starting to move their players around to open them up but we are not doing this. It's pass after pass hoof it to JET who always and I mean always slows it down when he gets it, so guess what happens they close the gap again.

I know a lot of people rate him and on form he can be devastating but remember why he's here it's because it's his way or no way. Watch tonight if he plays how many times Baldock gives him openings and then never gets the ball (**** me I hope I'm eating these words tonight) it's just to slow.

Last year we had Albert who was too quick he forgot to stop at the end of the pitch and JET who's just too slow. Both mesmerising skill but their one weakness creates a massive weakness in the team. We are just not creating as a team, I know Port Vale was a massive shock to lose the way we were playing. A Wolves fan said if we played like we did for that 20-30 against them for 90 minutes no one would touch us in this league and teams in the league above would also struggle.

Given the choice I would rather see SoD retained to see where this takes us than start again, don't give a **** that I can't understand what's he sniffing about, but I like his philosophy of the game.

Just tell them to create space SoD and you would of cracked it I hope.

there is a point here that is being mis construed..what we are trying to obtain...

we are doing this and getting better at it, indeed we concentrate on doing it to much and go and give away those last minute goals ...lack of concentration...so next is putting the ball away like Taylor tonight!??? and concentrating more on doing it better

just got back from Brentford, thought the game was up there....lol only joking got back from London at 2030

Not sure people are disagreeing with you. First twenty odd minutes apart City should be better than last night. When the level of performance drops , when that becomes consistent the person heading the ship eaves.

Not good enough. not doing well, not doing enough last night.
