TBF We'd regard anyone outside the top 7 last season as winnable at home. Whilst I've openly admitted that Swansea are in front of us in terms of overall quality at the moment I don't believe them coming to the CCS would be a lost cause even if we weren't local rivals. I'd see them in the Newcastle 'category' of sides. Quality sides that we need to be at our absolute best against, if we do that we can get a result if we don't......... The derby effect means there is an uncertainty about the game, more chance of red cards, pens, trouble, players bottling it but in the end it'll be a football match and the team that plays best will normally end up on the right side of the result. They're also the only side that'll be able to bring an even better atmosphere than the Man city game out of our crowd.
Apart from the bragging rights (huge!) and in terms of points, realistically the derbies are only two games in 38. Interesting question for this first one at the CCS for both sets of supporters - would you settle for a point right now?
If it was against a normal team that has just come up, id have to say no, I wouldn't settle for a point, but then its a derby, so as mentioned form goes out the window. But.....I believe our Spanish contingent (mainly Chico and Michu) have already been apart of games with big atmosphere's, and they always seem to excel in the big games, they have that enthusiasm about themselves, so without trying to be biased, I am hoping them along with the likes of Britton, Williams and Rangel, who have had first hand experience in the derby, will overcome you guys. Heart says we should win, head is unsure yet, will see how Hernandez fits back in to the mould, if he comes back sttrong, and plays, then I would fancy 3 points, if not, I am not so sure of the creativity of our other 2 wingers to make that "difference"
I'd take a point right now. Derby games are always intense and this is going to be shown on a world stage. I don't think I could bare losing it!
I'm too competitive to settle for a point right now even though the form book gets thrown away for this type of fixture. Bottom line is that we have the better team and this is our third season so I'd be disappointed with anything other than a win. I suspect most Cardiff fans would take a point though. Like it or not we have a decent team.
Someone on our board mentioned the fact that your team cost quite a bit more than ours. Is this right? Must say I haven't checked.
I guess it depends on what teams are on the park that day but I doubt both together cost as much as one G. Bale.
You're probably right, but I've got no real idea what some of your guys cost you at the time. I reckoned up that the starting eleven we put out on Saturday cost us about £23M in total.
Are Shelvey, Bony and Hernandez in the 11 he's talking about? As I'm pretty sure* they add up to what Sparks just said. I think our starting 11 will have cost a little more than that but only a couple of million and certainly well under 30 mill. *based on the figures the papers claim both clubs paid and I've repeatedly pointed out on here the papers are full of ****. Swansea's transfer dealings have obviously gone very well over the last 2 years but I would think people will think twice about values being asked after the total failure of Allen and Sinclar. Not that selling them for about £15m (combined) over actual value was bad work by Jenkins!! It's fairly likely that Williams was priced out of a move this summer imo.
The form book counts for nothing. The better team will win on the day (subject to the officials doing their jobs competently). The players are not local to the team so to them it will be not that much more different to playing Man U or Arsenal; the crowd will be more agitated than usual but I doubt the fact it is a local derby will count for little come the outcome.
Williams Britton ,Rangel Taylor Dyer, have all played in the recent Derby games so they know what it's about
I would take a point but at home especially if we can get something from Norwich, I would think we would have a crack at the whole three points.
