Robson

This may have gone a little under the radar, certainly not seen it reported as yet but Norwich have appointed former West Ham and Charlton midfielder Mark Robson as new Under 21 manager and development coach. He joins from Barnet, where he has been working closely with Edgar Davids and is currently an important part of the England Under 17s setup. Highly recommended by Roy Hodgson as I understand it.

 

I don't really remember him as a player, or know much about his coaching methods, but I know Barnet were relegated to the conference last season. This is from Barnet's wiki page :-

apologies, you're absolutely right - i thought he was still at barnet

in fact, it seems he has been concentrating on his role with the england youth setup

maybe i should have looked him up before i posted

 

So the doom-mongers will have fresh ammo, a clubless coach who in his last role managed to help propel his side out of the football league

Seems a good appointment to be fair, would say he can't be bad if he is part of the England set up but they have just employed Southgate as U21 manager.

On a serious note though, he seems a very good appointment and be good incentive for our young players to impress him and hopefully get in the England youth set up.

 

i'm afraid i have no idea if he is any good or not but as you say, if he's involved in with the england 'yoof' then he must have something about him and the club seem delighted to have got him. its quite an important job, the man between the youth team and the first team, so we'll soon see if he's any good or not

 

Does this have any impact on Neil Adams' role at the club?

he effectively replaces scott marshall who was poached by manchester city

 

That's good to hear, though I wonder if Adams himself had been considered for this role or whether he was told to carry on the excellent work with the kids?

 

We can tell ourselves that this was down to the ability of the players, not the coach

 

i can't see any reason to change a winning formula at that level. the kids seem to enjoy playing for him.

the under 21 role is interesting. results are pretty irrelevant - its all about getting first team players either recuperated after injury, keep them sharp or bring in youngsters when they are ready. he'll have to work closely with both hughton and adams so i assume this is a hughton appointment.
