put a man on the posts for corners and direct free kicks vs newcastle or allow them to score from set pieces like we do every other team? Unfortunately this is a serious question.
For once I agree with you - Having someone on the post is something I tell the kids I coach (under 8's) and it happens every corner we give away. But what do I know - I'm paying for the privilege of coaching the bairns. Di Canio didn;t put people on the posts - although he did against Liverpool and Larsson just watched the ball roll past him into the net!
It's a footballing basic mate. JoS is our Captain and organiser of the back 4, he should be delegating and making sure those posts are protected but he just can't be ****ing arsed.
To be fair we are probably the one team in the league you don't need anybody on the posts from corners, given we haven't scored from one in 3 or 4 seasons!
Any manager worth his salt should have this sorted before a game kicks off. Everyone should know where they are supposed to be. If you are man to man then people should be designated a particular member of the oppo and then someone to look after the posts. If you are zonal then you should have a specific position plus two on the posts. Some think it unneccessary given statistically not many goals are scored from corners. That's the problem with managing by statistics for me!
Nobody on the posts for Poyet's first game, nobody on the posts for Bally's games and nobody on the posts for Paolo's games. I highly doubt all three managers have specifically requested that nobody covers the posts given it's been the cause for so many conceded goals. Surely the managers expect our captain and 'star' CB to use a bit of initiative and get his defence organised?
That is just bizarre. As you say it would be surprising if they all decided posts do not need covered. Equally surprising though would be if players are somehow forgetting the basic information given in set piece planning come the 90mins on match day. Its not that difficult, just usually your two poorest headers of the ball are told to guard the posts. Even in Sunday football we worked that out before a game! If they have indeed been given specific roles and then they are not bothering, like you say a quick bollocking reminder from the captain. Either way, from a Sunderlands supporters point of view, its not very good.
I don't think they've practiced defending set pieces at all. I think Paolo was intent on attack, Bally was too busy giving them everything they want and more and Poyet has had two days with his entire squad. This is why JoS should be manning up and being a leader, it's his defence, just because a manager hasn't given specific instructions doesn't mean you should leave your common sense and captains armband in the dressing room. The only two decent things he could do in past seasons is organise and lead, now he's wiped them from his game he's rendered himself completely useless. You'll be rubbing your hands when he starts against you lot.
It's a negative post, Newcastle haven't scored from a corner since 1st October 2011. Only scored from one crossed in free kick over a long period and that was Paul Dummett's goal on Saturday.
So what? Why don't you just make it about Newcastle? It's a Major problem and if you haven't noticed we do play other teams this season.
Couldn't agree more........ Well as long as they don't stand like my little teapot leaning against the post! Yes I'm talking about you Larsson, twat! How about some old fashioned defending too? You know the thing where you watch the ball coming over, the nearest one to it then runs and jumps and heads it away. Has to be easier than holding or blocking someone with your ****ing back to the ball!!!!!!!!!!
I couldn't agree more. If we have noticed this fatal flaw (ever since Game 1 v Fulham !!) then surely Gus, studying the footage as he stated post match,..... will pick this up straight away and say ....... Colback...... Larsson (or whoever are the 2 short ar-ses) ...... get on the posts and hug them and caress them, and make them 2 foot wider ............until the keeper screams GET OUT !!! FFS
What if he makes them train hard and eat healthily? Who can they get in to replace him as the new manager?
Oh go **** off back north of the Tyne you ****ing pleb. I'll tell you this bonny lad, I hate crossing that bridge. Unfortunately, in December I shall have to because I will be putting some fresh flowers on my Janie's grave. Maybe have a beer with her brother while I'm there, a mag who I'd stand shoulder to shoulder with. You on the other hand................................................... The OP asked a genuine question & then you have to come along & poke your ****ing beak in. Go back to being Joe Stalin over on your own board man.
