The club plays in the Divizia Naţională, the top division in Moldovan football. The club was founded by the Sheriff security company on 4 April 1997, who remains a key sponsor. The club was officially refounded under the leadership of Victor Gushan (the company's president). The first Sheriff coach, Ahmad Alaskarov (who was as a coach in the old Soviet Supreme League), was charged with leading the team to the Moldovan top division. Sheriff's first football trophy was the 1998–99 Moldovan Cup. The club won promotion to the top flight in 1998, after its first-ever season, and dominated the Moldovan National Division with ten consecutive titles from 2001 to 2010, winning an eleventh in 2012. The side also have seven Moldovan Cup titles, including six double-winning seasons. Last season Sheriff were dumped out of the comp by Olympic Marseille in the early qualifiers. This season having qualified, their first two games were a 0-0 with Anzhi and a 1-1 away draw with Tromso.
Who shot the Sheriff? Most by the look of it but they are the best of the rest it seems. OK I will try to be excited.
Their ground although small 14k, its only just over 10 years old so looks pretty decent. International matches are played there so the pitch must be decent...anythings an improvement on the last recreational park we played on in Russia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheriff_Stadium
I think we can confidently say we'll be 7 points ahead of the pack on Thursday. Odds for this game (roughly): Home win: @12.00 (11/1) Draw: @4.90 (4/1) Away win: @1.38 (11/4 on)
"I think we can confidently say we'll be 7 points ahead of the pack on Thursday." You don't think Anzhi will beat Tromso at home ??
....crafty boy! ...those that missed...well we all did as it goes!, you would have needed the hubble telescope to read it!
That'll teach you not to quote! Thanks to Inda, I now have the gif(t) of posting proper pics. Stand by for a lot over the next few weeks!
Should comfortably beat this lot with a "second string", really hope AVB doesn't play too many (if any) first teamers, I don't want a repeat of the West Ham performance, I want the players as fit as possible for Hull. Team I'd like: Friedel, Naughton, Chiriches, Kaboul (if fit), Fryers Capoue (if fit), Dembele Lamela, Holtby, Chadli Defoe Dawson in for Kaboul and Paulinho for Capoue if neither are fit enough. Reckon 4-0, Defoe hat trick and Lamela to grab his first in our colours.
Not sure how we should line up really, there are plenty of attacking players that should be fine to play and could do with a game but not so much in defence. I hope we leave a lot more players at home this time and fill the bench with youngsters. Dawson/Vertonghen and Chirches will probably have to play as well as Dembele and Holtby(maybe) but elsewhere I don't think there's any need to take anyone that might be starting Sunday. Actually Lennon could probably do with some minutes too. AVB will probably play Walker and piss us all off
I did, and it posted the 'attach' logo in blue, which when you clicked it filled the screen, I couldn't get it to duplicate what you did....so if you wouldn't mind putting it back please!
Problems are the back four injuries. If Kaboul is not up to it, then two of the PL CBs have to play. Assuming Spurs win this week, I wonder if the coaches will consider giving Veljkovic a go in some of the remaining group games. If he looks ok, that would take the pressure off of Kaboul a fair bit.
Maybe we should've kept Gallas on? We've been linked with a couple of defenders that can play at both left-back and centre-half. Should have sorted it in the summer. That Sheriff badge is ****ing awful, by the way. Looks like a made up team from some bad computer game.
