Neither Vokes nor Ings were prolific before this season, Dyche has obviously seen something in the partnership that works and, high on confidence, they have just kept scoring. Lets hope we keep them quiet next week...
Very thought provoking OP. One thing though.......................it would take quite a massive turn around in form for us to be OUTSIDE the top six come Christmas.
Looks like they play 442 do you think we should play two up front against them? or keep to our formation & counter attack like we have been, personally i'd like to go with more attacking options & play chev up front with charlie & get 2 goals in front then change it back to 5 accross middle, your thoughts.
I'd stick with the formation and play counter, with the option of a Chevy Chase if things aren't going well. If they are 4-4-2 then we should see a bit of the ball in midfield. The one thing we should be wary of, however, is trying to play the tippy-tappy around the back four, as one of them is likely to **** up and give their strikers a sniff.
Agreed. Stick with the extra man in midfield and then, if they play 4-4-2 we should out-play them in the midfield.
this is all true, BUT... their position in league is partly because we won or drew them, if they had taken 3pts off us, it would be a bit different: Shef Wed - 23 (+3pts = 19) Huddersfield - 13 # (+2 pts = 11) Ipswich - 11 (+3 pts = 8) Bolton - 21 (+3 pts = 18) Leeds - 15 (+3pts = 8) Birmingham - 19 (+3 pts = 16) Brighton - 14 # (+2 pts = 11) Yeovil - 24 (+3pts = 22/21) Middlesborough - 16 (+3pts = 11/12/13) Barnsley - 22 (+3pts = 19) Milllwall - 18 # (+2pts = 16) 4 or 5 of these teams could potentially be in top half of the table and only 1 in drop zone. if we compare this to league leaders Burnley, they have played/opp. league pos. (we have played): Ipswich 0-1 Burnley /12 (QPR 1-0 I) Burnley 2-1 Reading / 6 Doncaster 0-2 Burnley / 17 Burnley 3-0 Charlton / 19 Leeds 1-2 Burnley / 9 (L 0-1 QPR) Burnley 3-0 Birmingham / 20 (QPR 1-0 B) Burnley 1-1 Blackburn / 11 Derby 0-3 Burnley / 8 Brighton 2-0 Burnley /15 (QPR 0-0 B) Burnley 2-0 Yeovil / 24 (Y 0-1 QPR) Sheff Wed 1-2 Burnley / 23 (QPR 2-1 S) Burnley 1-1 Bolton / 21 (B 0-1 QPR) This gives a much better picture of the season at this point. They have played only Reading (6) and Derby (8) that are higher in the table than who we have played against, and Donny (17), Charlton (19), Birmingham (20), Bolton (21), Sheff Wed (23), Yeovil (24) from the bottom. Results are very similar against teams we both have played, and they lost at Brighton (we drew against them home), drew against Bolton at home (we won away). It is inevitable this early in the season, that teams at the top have mostly played against teams at the bottom, that's how it works. You get to the top by winning and end up at the bottom by losing games.
Don't believe any if this ... In short the table doesn't lie and we will drop points ... I sense we can play a lot better than this and fear no one in this league ... Burnley won't be up here come the end IMO
Played golf with my Burnley supporting mate yesterday, he's going to Turf Moor on saturday.....he was saying that both Ings & Vokes have been carrying injuries and they are unlikely to both play a full 90 minutes next week......could be utter rubbish but could wor in our favour......
I know the result against Millwall would have felt like a defeat, but I hope that's the wake up call we need to regain the form and urgency in our play. Both goals were preventable, and the equaliser from Easter was very fortunate. We're still unbeaten, and that's worth remembering for confidence. I expect us to beat Burnley, and if we do then a message would have been sent loud and clear to the rest of the league. When Carroll and Onouha return we will only be even stronger
That's a cast iron certainty. They're doing amazingly so far and full credit to them, they deserve all the plaudits they're getting. But they won't make the playoffs.
Funny isn't it, most of us think that Burnley will not sustain their form, but we still wanted them to lose on Saturday. Where our opponents happen to be in the table currently is not really important - it's where they are likely to finish. I just look at the fixtures and hope that every game not involving us ends in a draw.
I actually think that Burnley will keep going, this is there best start since 1897 and winning breeds confidence....they will be backed by a boisterous crowd on saturday who will act like a 12th man.....they will be there or therabouts at the end of the season....
My Millwall mate at work who was at the game reckons QPR were excellent at passing we should win the league he reckons by at least 10 points
They've a very good team alright Tramore but I don't think they have the squad to last the 46 games. But who knows, you could be right!
According to my mate who was listening to their game on their iplayer, they won ugly on saturday without Ings & Vokes really doing a whole lot.....good teams manage to grind out victories as we have been doing as well.....
Leeds now being 9th 1 day later shows how tenuous the OP is. [ Bags of arrogance in these statements and you clearly werent there because we didn 'hang on'. Millwall aren’t a poor side they had a bad start with a new manager but are at least an average side for this league and will take points off of plenty of top 6 sides. Trotter, McDonald, Waghorn and Forde are good players Suggestions that we intentionally 'relax and soak up pressure' as if its somehow our decision as to whether they are going to have a period of pressure is a bit arrogant really. Teams will inevitably have periods of possession and pressure. Because we have a lot of experience and quality for this level, even during these periods of pressure, we can look relaxed as we win the ball back and play ourselves out of trouble. BAE fits this description better than anyone. What we do also do is pass it around at the deeper after going ahead because teams continue to sit back. Then what happens is a midfielder or striker or even centre back come out of position to win the ball back. This creates space and at this point we move the ball forward. This approach and possession football has helped us just go 8 and a half games without conceding a goal so we aren’t doing too badly. Absolute bollox. We have added attacking flair in our last few games to our solid defensive foundation. Austin keeps getting better and Kjancjar is far too good for this level. The team is improving and there is more to come. We were lucky to beat Yeovil but very unlucky not to win on Saturday.
