There will be some disappointed people if they have sold over 26,000 tickets as it doesn't hold that many.
In the rugby mad city of Hull they are giving tickets away to anyone wanting them as they can't shift them even at the extremely low prices they are available for. The games apart from England's up to the quarter-finals aren't even been shown live.
The Aussies squad didn't go to Salford they went to Old Trafford to watch Man Utd. The biggest crowd of the day. If they had wanted to see the second largest they could have gone and watched Saracens rugby union team playing in front of 61,800 in a club game.

The fact that Hull City fans are being cold called by staff at the KC to try and flog them Rugby World Cup tickets tells you all you need to know.

England will sell out, all the others will be played in half empty stadiums.

Reported yesterday on our pay TV sports channel. "England v Ireland World Cup rugby league match to be played in Huddersfield is the first match to be sold out with over 26,000 applications received for tickets."

Who mentioned the word "sold". I responded to how many people "cared" about the match which was your initial point.I never mentioned capacity either.

Last July Manchester United came to Sydney to play a pre-season friendly. On the Wednesday night before their weekend game the whole of the United squad attended the highest TV rating rugby league match of all time played before almost 84,000 attendees.( we were there). Ryan Giggs was featured in an interview at the game saying how he and other team members loved rugby league and what an awesome experience it was to be at this game.(Decider in the best of 3 matches played between NSW and QLD)

So very appropriate that the Australian team would return the favour and attend the Old Trafford match.

As a postscript the weekend friendly played at the same venue attracted another 84,000 crowd. A couple of days earlier another 10,000 people paid A$10 each to watch them train!

My husband is out tonight working with the State Emergency Service on fires only a few miles away and I am preparing ready to leave for Sydney to stay with friends if conditions deteriorate or we are ordered to leave the house. We are under a declared State of Emergency in our area where hundreds of homes have been totally destroyed or seriously damaged and authorities are warning of maybe worse to come in the the next day or so.

To answer your question though. Yes we are all OK(us and the 2 cats). Thank You for your concern.

My sister spent some time in Oz and the photo's she brought back of the Blue Mountains were some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. Hope the area can recover and obviously you all stay safe.

My sister-in-law and husband came to visit from Hull in early September for a couple of weeks and they too loved their Blue Mountains experience. It has a long history of fires with some really horrendous ones but has recovered in the past so will do so from this one. We love living near the bush having spent 44 of our 45 years in Australia within about 50 metres of a National Park boundary so consequently have had a few scary times with fires.

Thanks for your message and to all those who have given similar responses. It really does help in an unexplainable way!
Once we get past tomorrow we believe the worst could be over in respect of potential property loss in our area.

I thought this was a football board, seriously what are you hoping to achieve?

Those that agree with you don't need convincing and those that disagree certainly won't care what you have to say on the matter.

Pointless thread that will only go one way.

    Too easy!

'So 26,000 out of 55million care'

There's 63 million people in the UK and there's been more than 26,000 tickets sold.

'The games apart from England's up to the quarter-finals aren't even been shown live.'

All games are being shown live.

'Saracens rugby union team playing in front of 61,800 in a club game.'

It was a one off major cup game, Saracens get crowds smaller than Hull FC for regular league games.

Like I said those that agree with the OP don't need convincing, those that don't agree won't care less what you have to say.

I was referring to the points in the original post. What is there to disagree with?

I don't know why you are quoting the population of the UK when we are discussing England. There isn't a UK rugby league team playing in the world cup.

As for Saracens it was not a major cup game. It was a pool game, one amongst many others. Which showed how RU's marketing is better than RL's. there were nearly as many at Wembley cor this minor pool game thanghe Challenge Cup Final. They have actually had more for club games in the leqgue than that at Twickenham.Talking of major cup games what have FC had for a cup game recently which wasn't a final with fans from all over the country there? Have they broken through the 12,000 barrier?
It is somewhat ironic that in fhe rugby mad capital of the game they are desperately trying to shift tickets and not succeeding even when they are giving them away.
