And a lot of the posters on here have formed an opinion of JDG based on the way he has played the past 12 months and not by how he has played the odd half a game every blue moon.
Urmmm my stats are from both the WHOLE of last season, and another set of stats from teh start of this season, so am sorry, fail to see your point. The only case your resting is your own, as you have provided nothing to back up your statement that JDG makes up for his defensive frailties with his offensive work.
Yes he scored a terrific goal yesterday and was roundly applauded and a spell of his name being sung but doesn't mean that no one can comment on his deficiencies, not one player can be carried in the team and some times it appears thats whats happening . I can understand some may feel there is a witch hunt regarding De guzman but there's been plenty of "negative " comments regarding other players too .
Try again shall we, as its not quite sinking in FROM THE 2012/13 season. So seeing as those stats are based off the whole season, how is his offensive duties that much better than the likes of Dyer, Hernandez, Michu, and Routs, who all track back a damn sight better than JDG does...... So even as an offensive entity in our team, he should still track back like every bugger else. He is not immune to tracking back and doing his defensive duties. Else we are a team of 10 team mates, and 1 player, which we are not.
Im saying JDG is also entitled to have a fair crack , in the same way we never blame Vorm when he fails to clear his line which is very often, but thats ok because we like Vorm dont we ? . Stats from 2 different seasons now !! ffs guys . If we combined stats from last season and the begining of this one then Luke moore has scored more goals than wilfried Bony !... We look at who is productive over a season .not 2 seasons not half a season or a start of a season, same as we see where we finish at the end of the season thats how we judge a players contributuion. JDG scored 8 goals i think(not checking the stats so feel free to correct) and was top for assists not a bad contribution at all, i think it will be a similar story this season. But he doesnt run around alot though ....
8 in all competitions, so now who is using stats from last season It was also you who brought up last seasons stats by saying JDG was the best for assists and goals from the midfield Or is last seasons stats only relevant when it suits? The difference between my stats and your lame effort to criticise them, is that I am not comparing De Guzman of last season, to Canas of this, as they are differnt times, instead, I have compared players who played last season, to players who played last season. Or is that too hard for you to get your head around. You yourself said you cannot judge a players based on the short start to the season, so what gives you the right to tell us that he is making up for his defensive frailties, with his offensive frailties, after just 8 games? Again, when it suits it seems
So what your saying is that JDG was the top scorer and top assist guy ?? other than Michu, your point ? Am i seeing things or is he top of both scoring and assist charts ?
Your seeing things just fine, in a 1 dimensional view. Anyone with a bit of common sense, will know that JDG should, in his own right, be ahead in assists, based on the FACTS that he is the set piece taker, so will have scored and assisted based on that alone. Ya know, free kicks, corners, they all add up. How many has he scored this season? 2. 1 of those from a free kick, so there is his extra role giving him benefits. So in open play he is less effective due to his extra role bumping up the numbers. Then there is the fact, that JDG started more games than all but Michu, (who started 2 more games than JDG) But you continue to look at what info you want to too prove your point to yourself, I will look at the bigger picture.
Last seasons stats are the only relevent thing right now, that was my point. Your idea was to mix 2 seasons l together which can be made to prove anything really, hence Luke moore scoring more than Bony . My argument is based on the fact many people are looking at what he doesnt do as opposed to what he DOES do, by your own research its proven that he is an asset as he headed the 2 charts for goals and assists. The fact that he doesnt track back very well is quite apparent and always has been, its nothing new ! So my point about his good side out weighing his bad side still stands and has not been put to bed despite Swanselona trying to side track and go off at a tangent . Like i said earlier i sure the good things he does on the field have out done the bad things he has done, but some people like to focus on the negative aspects and nothing else . Vorm makes goal keeping error after error but nothing is said, michu has plenty of stinkers and misses critical chances, Ash and chico have been like laurel and hardy at the back, they ALL have plenty of failings ,some cost us points and some dont cost us points though it can sometimes seem that way a midfielder not tracking his man completly wont always result in a goal, as frustrating as it may be for us its the big picture that many are failing to see. Laudrup is looking at what this player GIVES him ,not what he DOESNT give him
So by that logic Michu should be way way ahead of Bony in goals ?? .... I'll leave you to tell me how many dozen he is ahead by shall i ?
The only picture your looking at is the old one, the one alot of us looked at last season, debated and moved on from ! ... Let it go mun!, JDG will never be Roy Keane ,the sooner you accept his failings and apreiciate the good things he does the better you will feel...honet
Where have I mixed 2 seasons together, I have not, I gave two different sets of stats to look at. First based on last season. To compare him to the other midfielder's who played last season. Second based on the start to this, compared to other players who have started this season. They are not there to mix and match, they are there to provide multiple examples. Sorry if that is too hard for you to understand. We know JDG can track back, we seen it enough at the start of last season, then he seemed to become billy big bollocks come the end of the season, and he never recovered, and still doesn't track back now. So why is that? You say its a weakness that he can't track back, yet prior to the capital one cup, he wasn't half bad at it, he was fast becoming some fans favourite player. So how all of a sudden is he now **** at it? And that it is something he is no good at? Now my stats provided have shown you that JDG was joint top of the premier league assists for the swans, alongside Dyer who started 8 less games. It shows he scored 5 premier league goals, the same amount as Routs, who started less games. So his offensive role isn't all as you have made it out to be, based on the FACTS HE TAKES FREE KICKS AND CORNERS.
Bony, your telling me that JDG is an offensive midfielder, so compare him to an offensive midfielder. But then if it suits your point you will compare him to a striker, just like you brought up Scotland and Bony up earlier in the thread. Apples and Oranges. Bony I would hope would score more than Michu, based on the FACT he is a STRIKER. Wow........never of thought that would ya.
Think you will find that Michu has played about the same amount of times as a striker as bony has this season. So now your saying that JDG can track back ?? As i have said right from the start as far as i can see JDG has probably won us more than he has lost us , you decided to take the argument off at a tangent by then talking about him not doing certain things but that is basically irrelevent in the point i was making, which is that he wins us more than he loses us
