the one top eight team we played - Southampton - tore our midfield to shreds.

Not if Coutinho's back. If he isn't then I'd probably agree with you tbh.

The only time I can think of when we actually controlled and dominated a game was the first half against Villa.

I would actually like to see Allen and Henderson as our CM pairing. Neither are better players than Gerrard or Lucas individually but I do feel that they are better suited to the current formation. It would be very risky but I I would like to see it.

It's almost as if Rodgers has decided to concede the passing, possession, pressing game because he doesn't have the midfield engine to implement it.

Some may disagree but our defence wasn't that bad - reason I say that is because we mainly restricted Newcastle to long range efforts. They rarely troubled us in the box (bar the set piece). The first goal - he midfield should have closed them down and not even allowed the shot in the first place.

The attack was very disjointed and poor by our standards yet Sturridge and Suarez were still involved in both goals. They saved us from defeat.

Personally, I think we should play 4-3-3

    Mignolet

    Johnson
    Toure
    Sakho
    Cissokho

    Lucas

    Hendo
    Coutinho

    Suarez
    Sturridge
    Moses

I would play Lucas as the main DM with Hendo and Gerrard ahead of him. It means Lucas can occupy the space without Gerrard getting in the way or to cover for.

  11. Can't be both Allen and Hendo? Also, Coutinho...?

I do think Allen should play that role but was not sure others would agree.

    ---------------Mignolet----------------
    -------Toure--Skrtel--Sakho--------
    Johnson-Hendo-Gerrard-Enrique
    -----------------Allen------------------
    ------Sturridge---Suarez------------

If Coutinho is fit he replaces Allen.

So you are honestly settling for 2 mediocre midfield player instead one of our 2 worldclass players?

I would not call Lucas and Gerrard world class at this moment in time.

Gerrad IS worldclass so we'll just have to disagree. But then I suppose your descriptor is lazy <doh>

Some of the passes Gerrard hit yesterday were brilliant he's really settled into that role imo and helps us stretch the play going forward there are not many players in the world that can hit a pass like him.

this is precisely why 5-2-3 is disasterous.

play any of our lot i na 2 and let moses wander about like a headless chicken and we get over run. we must get back to basics. 4-3-3 stick henderson in with lucas and let gerrard trot about where he feels like, drop moses and play coutinho in a weeks time really f'n simple. tell suarez to watch himself or he'll be out wide right as well. he's about a month from starting his transfer crap again.

    mingolet
    johnson toure sahko cissohko
    henderson gerrard lucas
    suarez sturridge coutinho

don't want to see any sign of skertl taking a midfielders slot, moses wandering about or any sort of silly formation when the games are won and lost by defensive errors and midfield dominance. 2 bad errors for thier first goal, really poor set peice for their second. they laughed at us for the rest bar two occasions suarez got in behind.

I agree with all of that. <cheers>

    Just change the formation slightly.......

    -------mingolet
    johnson toure sahko cissohko
    henderson gerrard lucas
    -------coutinho
    -----suarez sturridge

    Hmm LG, 4-3-1-2?

Diamond in the middle? Lucas, Hendo, Gerrard, Cout?

Edit: When Ancelloti was at Chelsea and won the league and cup double, he played a diamond and it looked like this for the most part...

Interesting about Malouda as you could possibly say Moses is in that mould as well....
