Was it not Leeds60 who was jumping up and down saying we should sign Smith? Looks like he was right Not saying he's the finished article, but a) he was cheap and b) we can't score goals and c) he scored two........... seems like BM (and Leeds60 ) may know a thing or two after all. Another positive, until Brown's cameo appearance on 90- minutes, not a single old lag on the pitch (I don't count GK's, they are different). Team made up of youngsters coming through, 3 of BM's signings (minus Hunt ), and some of the better/less old players left when NW went. Suddenly it does not seem quite so bad. Though Birmingham are hardly Barcelona or Bayern, I suppose we should remind ourselves.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Jock, but Brum can't afford to sack their Manager. They genuinely don't have enough to pay the compensation apparently. Watch this space for administration & a 10 point penalty.
Will probably be others with same idea though. Actually felt sorry for their manager after. Based on today's performance, they are virtual relegation certainties
Great result and display. Only negative for me was seeing Kenny constantly glued to his line, and his inability to come out for crosses. I lost count of the number of times a cross or a corner came in, expecting to see him come out to catch the ball and snuff out the danger, only to see him ball watching. He really should command his area more.
From just above the goal in sth stand I can honestly say there was only one cross I felt he should have come for in second half and he did makes fantastic tip over save. Tom Lees had his best game. Really pleased ****er didn't ruin him
Thank you 20-20 I have been vindicated after taking all that stick now to get a winger to give him more service I have said all along he is without a better buy than Caroll now you know!
I'd still take Burke. He was the only one who did anything remotely decent for what was a truly awful Brum side.
On Lees, another site & I think one or two on here may have slagged him off in the past. And yes, he does make mistakes. But one goal line clearance today shows that his future is looking rosy. Stillnot sure I like him at RB. But he'll certainly more than give Peltier a run for his money.... assuming Byram's move to RM is now permanent.
Can't believe Austin got man of the match = all he did was either lump someone or lump the ball as high as he could. What happened to the Brum side that spanked us = certainly wasn't that team. Was a very poor advertisement for Championship football and I would not be surprised to see both teams in the bottom 3 in May.
Clarke I have always felt was useless but they cant afford to sack him as 20-20 says but thank goodness he didn't grace us we have had our fill of useless managers
Now it's funny you should say that, Boggers. When I saw the lineup, I assumed that Lees was playing RB & Byram RM, but it didn't seem to pan out like that to me during the game. Byram was playing RB at times, and other times he was steaming up the wing. Nothing new about that, but it appeared that in playing 3 CBs at the back, Byrams runs were covered off easily by Lees, rather than looking for the midfielders to cover for him if an attack broke down. Seems to have worked well. Byram didn't really work with the midfield in a conventional manner. We had a narrow 3 in midfield, so it seemed to be almost a free role that Byram had. I wonder if this role is based on the early Bale role. Hmmm. Perhaps I misread the tactics - happy to hear some comments. MOT
