Yeah the header was a half-chance. It would have been an incredible header had he scored from there. The goal was a good delivery, met by a swing at the ball which fortunately went in off another player. Unless you count every corner or free-kick as a chance then I wouldn't classify that as one really.

I wouldn't call something a chance unless you'd expect to score from that situation most of the time, though I admit there's no hard and fast definition.

I know what you mean, but then by that token how many did United have? The goal....and then the two that hit the woodwork....not really many more than us.

Van Persie had a shot from about 12 yards out which was straight at Boruc and Nani had a close range effort resulting from a corner I think. So that's 5, or 6 if you count Rooney's initial shot for the goal as well as Van Persie's subsequent finish. It's a fair amount more than us either way. They will create lots against most teams though, it's only their defence that is really letting them down this season and yesterday (without Ferdinand) it wasn't that bad, so we can be happy with the point, even if it's my belief that we were slightly fortunate to get it.

Sure, but then going on the stats, De Gea had 7 shots to save, Boruc 5, so....agree though, it's partly semantics as to what constitutes a chance.

Yes though, happy with a point at Old Trafford and a good performance which goes back to the original point of my post. I was ultimately just objecting to being called moronic for pointing out that an unfancied team sitting in 5th can't really be doing too badly at either end of the pitch.

Yeah I wouldn't call that moronic, but you have to admit our attack hasn't been as potent as it could be, with only Lallana really impressing lately out of all the attacking players. It does make you wonder how much better we could be if they all clicked though!

They're not wrong though. Fellaini got zero out of Wanyama. In the end he got so frustrated he stepped on the back of Victor's right leg after VW had once again taken the ball away and was running off. The blades/studs went all the way down Victor's lower right leg and nearly took his boot off.

If there's one thing about Fellaini's play that I seriously don't like, it's that element. He's not beyond injuring a player on purpose, and I've seen him do it several times since he's played in the PL.

I think that, like Tottenham, they're adapting to the possession based style plus as you rightly say they haven't as yet clicked. It's a work in progress and susceptible to fluctuations in individual form (Rickie & Dani cases in point). Claiming that we lack ability and that Ramirez is currently the answer to a question that's not really even a massive concern is.....to me....well, you can probably guess the word that comes to mind.

Yes, he's a dirty one alright. Interesting the one person correctly identifying Morgan as *actually* the better buy for them. He/she are right (but they can't have him...)

Just re-read the Bleacher Report article. Apparently, Wanyama patrolled in front of Southampton's back four like a well-drilled century.

    Not sentry then..?

My eyes appear to be working reasonably well today. :)

Obviously a mistake, but I presume our word sentry comes from the Roman centurion. Interesting.

Obviously. Plus an over-reliance on a spell-checker. They're just not context sensitive. Proof reading is a dead skill.

It is strange with Fellaini, when playing against Everton the first question for most opposition managers must have been, how do we get control of midfield? Given time I´m sure him and Carrick will forge a formidable pairing

Yes but you'd think Moyes would know how to get the best out of him. Early days I suppose but he's only half the player he was last season!

I believe it comes from sentinel.

As in A Midsummer Nights dream when the Fairy Queen says: "One of you stand sentinel".
