Liverpool. The fact is I had nothing against Liverpool till not606, and have always felt FMG would get them moving in the right direction eventually. Besides, I'm also an ancient history buff, so I can understand K & R's obsession with Liverpool's long-past salad days.
1. there is no " business end " of the season ...its started mate , and every game counts but ..hey ho whatever . 2 . Ironic coming from a supporter of a team which bottles EVERY " business end " of the season . golden, just golden .
so you would rather have a chance of winning trophies than actually winning trophies?.... strange logic but OK.
"so you would rather have a chance of winning trophies than actually winning trophies?" I refer you to the 'Aston Villa' reasoning.
"A European powerhouse that's not actually playing European football? Wigan have a better claim to that title right now." In the case of the Poool, the amount and level of Euro footy they are playing is strongly related to the fact they are not a "domestic powerhouse" in recent times.
"if you don't wanna answer a simple question then I'll stop asking." Let me explain it to you as simply as I can : Winning a trophy two decades ago has no bearing on the present. And if one wants to go back two decades, should another go back three, four etc (the 'Holte' paradigm ) ??
I really could not have put it any better myself. As much as it would pain me to see Arsenal win the league, at the very least that ought to spur (geddit!) Levy and the board into pushing on with the stadium so that we can compete in the North London Power Struggle, whereas I don't think the club would give two-hoots if 'Pool won it. On the other hand, the levels of arrogance, boasting, and general delusion among Mousers would rise to levels not witnessed since plastics began following the club in the 80s (off the back of the Glory Days of the 70s).
I asked you if you would prefer rankings or trophies ? you still haven't been able to answer because it's not suiting your argument. BTW the last time we won big ears was in 05, uefa cup 01. numbers are not a strong point for me but thats less than 20years I'm sure, still picking up trophies all while being in the shadow of past glories too, not bad for a spent force eh.
"I'm sure, still picking up trophies all while being in the shadow of past glories too, not bad for a spent force eh." Quite commendable. Assuming tis not being used as a delusion for why the past glories are guaranteed to be returning.
there's no delusion in what I said. but seeing as you've avoided answering the question(again) I'll assume you think having a decent uefa ranking is more important for a team than actual trophies won. arsenal syndrome they call that, always up there but no cigar.
"I'll assume you think having a decent uefa ranking is more important for a team than actual trophies won." The UEFA rankings, for a PL club, appears to be a very accurate measure of how much of a "powerhouse" said club is in their domestic league and Europe. Given how well it tracks the demise of the Poool over the past 4 seasons, I can see why you would have issues with it.
I don't have an issue with it mate, you seem to as you are using it as some sort of measure of success, when in the real football world the only measure of real success is silverware. you obviously think a ranking is more important than a trophy. as you originally brought it up, I think that's flawed logic and have asked you to clarify many times but you just keep avoiding the point which you yourself brought into the debate. very simple one word answer required for the following question ... trophies or rankings ?
"decline since the Champions League win" We finished in the top 4 until season 08-09 when we finished 2nd 4 points behind the champions. "being genuineish contenders at the top of the table" 09-10....top 4 16pts behind the champions 10-11....5th 18pts behind the champions 11-12....top 4 20pts behind the champions 12-13....5th 17pts behind the champions Your mates don't talk for all of us, yes we have been in decline since 08-09 but ffs Ginger your clubs rise since our decline is hardly something to brag about. Is it?
If Arsenal can play all year like they did yesterday then they may well win the PL and they will deserve it for the high quality of their football. For most of my life I've been content to dismiss Arsenal as anti football but Wenger has changed that. Even their shocking disciplinary record seems to be a thing of the past
There'e a good way of looking at this. If we win the title (we won't), we'll rub your noses in it for a few weeks (apart from Piskie, who won't stop about it), then it'll be forgotten as we move on. If Liverpool win it, then you won't hear the end of it for 20 years. On a personal level, despite our rivalry, surely 2 months of gloating is better than 20 years of gloating?
Worse than that, every Mouser will conveniently forget that 'Pool have been dire for these past several seasons - falling behind Everton as Mersey's best club - and will claim that it was all merely a blip, and that "it's now business as usual." I really don't know how I would bear that level of imbecilic delusion. That's my take on it, exactly, Hans.
I cannot believe this thread. There is only one answer for a Spurs fan. If you did not answer that you would rather the sun stops burning than Ars*nal win ANYTHING then you need to look in a mirror very carefully and check you are not a Chelski in disguise.
Really? I've found many LFC supporters, especially on here have been brutally honest about our chances this season. While many pundits are starting to hype us up many of us expect a 6th or 7th place finish, and that includes me. The last few years have took their toll, there is a feeling around the club that we are finally starting to recover from the H&G reign, but they are only shoots for now, but at least now we're heading in the right direction. I guess as supporters we make the best out of what we have, or there would be no point in getting behind a team. What we've won is in the past of course, but the memory's is what makes football a special sport, we all have them moments we look back with fondness, whether they're cup wins or last minute victory's. But we still hope and thrive for more, that's what being a football supporter is all about, we don't think we have the right to be up there, but we do want to earn that right, and we can only do that by winning games. And I'm sure you feel exactly the same about Spurs. Whether either will achieve their ambitions, only time will tell. As for the question, definitely Liverpool.
you must of thought this was the sensible football fan thread magic that kind of common sense i fear will be lost here "he doesnt fit into the deluded liverpool fan myth........... ignore him!!! "
