Calm down Dave! I'm not saying I want hughton out or anything, just gauging public opinion. And seeing as it is a public forum and The post is on topic I will post whatever I want thanks. I just would like to know how confident people are with Hughton if we were to continue our run against teams that are similar in stature to us.
I'm not saying don't post, and of course you are entitled to your opinion, but if you can't see a marked improvement in our last two games then I really don't know what CH can do!
I do see an improvement Dave a big one. But at some stage the improvements will have to lead to results. It's the nature of the beast. I am curious what people will think if we fail in the next 2 home games, these are the sort of games that our season will hinge on. We have blown 2 of them, one away to Hull and at home to Villa. I was happy with the performance at Stoke and the result, we desperately needed it.
If we lost 4 -1 to Cardiff or any other club around us I would feel a bit more annoyed. But we're talking about an inform team who have only lost one game so far this season. I didn't expect us to get a result (I hoped) but was encouraged by what I saw. I will be more worried if we lose next week I have to admit.
Kempy, there's a phrase for people such as yourself, "Harbingers of doom"...so you got undone by Arsenal, did you really expect anything else? I watched the match with an Arsenal fan, you played well in periods and even my Arsenal mate conceded that the final scoreline flattered them somewhat...what changes would you have made (that CH didn't) to change the outcome of the match?
Didn't see the match but seemed similar to Chelsea in the sense that we were well in it until quality of opponents saw them through. Not sure it definitely panned out like that as I haven't seen it but nonetheless happy we got a goal. Bit of a consolation that Ozil is in my fantasy team.
Sounded like we defended well today, but were undone by some real quality goals. It's good that it took the opposition that much to break us down, even if they managed it four times. Seems like we could have drawn or lost by more goals had certain things gone differently but things are getting better. I truly do believe that Hughton and the team will turn this around.
It was very different from the Chelsea match, mate, in the Chelsea match you were good for a point until the last ten mins when you got hit by a sucker punch...today you were pretty much outplayed, but still showed signs that you've got something about you, you outplayed Arsenal at times, but at other times Arsenal were irresistible, they'll be there or there abouts at the end of the season.
Some interesting comments. These are just 2 of the many that I felt were really pertinent. The performance over the last couple of games has shown marked improvement and I'm quietly confident that we'll pick up some valuable points over the next month or so. In the last 2 games, we have had to deal with 2 of the top teams , who not only have superior forwards, but also have very good defenders and I hope we get more shots on goal over the next few weeks. I think our biggest failure is to get good balls into the box for Hooper or RvW to try and finish, as Snods, Pilks and Redmond are all too keen to have a shot at goal themselves, rather than look to see if a team mate is in a better position to score. I eally think it's something that needs to be addressed on the training pitch.
You have totally missed my point. I expected us to be undone by arsenal, of course I did. The question I am asking is how the fans will feel if we fail to win in our next 2 home games? That's all. I didn't expect to win or draw at the emirates today and maybe I should have started a new thread about this but I didn't want to in case I got castigated for it! The good performances that we have against the top 2 will need to be converted into points at some point against the lesser teams in the league and what I want to know is if we fail in the next 2 home games to do that what will people think in regards of us moving forward? I feel a bit set upon here, I am raising a valid point and I am being jumped on for it.
Like the intent, no point trying to defend a 2-1 loss. Didn't think it worked taking off Tettey, we needed him to get us on the ball.
As Thai, said I think the intention was good (try to be more creative in the final third) but they didn't work. Ironically, since CH has been slated for not making substitutions early enough or radically enough, in retrospect this looks like a game where we would have been better sticking to the original format for the whole game (although not sure how much Tettey was affected by the bang on the head or whether Pilks has a lingering injury problem). One good thing: Tettey is really blossoming in that midfield role with Fer and Howson. We know in general our most effective midfield formation now, I think. I also think yesterday should shut up the people who have been slagging off RvW. We really needed his runs yesterday - Hooper looks a bit stolid in comparison. This toe injury is becoming worrying.
Actually there is a point to "defending" a 2:1 defeat -- keeping your goal difference under control. I would think withdrawing Tettey was to do with his having had that bang; I hope so anyway because if CH starts to react to what his critics want rather than what he thinks best we will be in trouble.
I felt at the time, and CH said as much in his interview, the move was intended to push city forward as we were well in the game at that point, and he could see the opportunity of a point (perhaps more), so went for it. Now, if you are suggesting he may have done this under pressure from the critical element of the fan base, and being more bold to appease them, then he is now in a no-win position. He can either go for it, or he can park the bus and bore everyone to death and be accused of reverting back to the dross served up a month ago. He is not going to please both ends of the spectrum, and that alone will eventually make his position untenable.
I haven't heard the interview, so fair enough if that's what he said. My feeling is that against the top teams you need to keep the defence solid. That type of change makes sense against lesser teams rather than the Arsenals etc.
Two games in a row Hughton's made changes to try and get more points. Unfortunately we shipped in four late goals and lost a potential point to Chelsea. Maybe it's the wrong choice given the opposition.
