Based on position and age, is there a worse signing we could make than an old midfielder? We're stacked in that position. I suppose if we kept Green, Cesar an Murphy and brought in another keeper, that would probably just about edge it...
I've just seen the 2 year contract stipulation too. That would be complete insanity and a massive step backwards after our sensible signings/contract lengths this summer. He was 33 over 5 months ago, we'd be committing to paying him probably 40k+ till he's almost 36?
That would fit in with my theory that Redknapp doesnt care because he wont be here then. The only way the signing could be worse is if hes just had a major injury, hes played 39 league games in 3 seasons so thats 13 per season.
It says he "...could put pen to paper on a two year deal." I guess he could put pen to paper on a a deal of a different length then.
I hope thats what he agent has leaked that he wants rather than what wed offer. Wed be insane to offer that. Then again we offered Johnson a multi year deal to play 5 games a season. Hes probably the highest paid player in the world per minute played.
This is where he needs to step up and tell the manager no. I could understand signing a forward because we are desperately short but we could easily fill the whole bench with midfielders.
Excactly what we need. Said in another thread I was hoping we would add even more experience to the squad in January, this is even better as he's a free agent and can sign ASAP. He can play and will probably be our best attacking player alongside Kranjcar. I'd rather see us play 4-6-0 than 4-4-2 so can never have enough quality in midfield. Two years? More like 1,5. This season and next. Nothing wrong in that whatsoever. Really hope he signs. He's quality that no other team in the league can compete with. Will add creativity, flair and passing skills way beyond this division.
How about if/when we go up and were lumbered with a player nowhere near good enough for the top flight?
I like him as always noted his close control, eye for a pass and on a free to cover potential injuries to our creative midfielders such as Carroll and Kranjcar, one is currently injured, I see an 18 month contract as a good signing especially as he can be used to develop the younger midfielders.
As Renault says, this would be an 'insurance' type signing because if Kranjcar gets injured we'd be f*cked for creativity. A quality player who can also be used late in games as a sub for Kranjcar or to help us chase a game. Look at the mix we've got in midfield and it will give us extra depth. I'm sure the contract negotiations will be aimed to the end of next season which would give us some options for the PL if we get there...
I get the 'insurance' argument, but surely we need insurance elsewhere as a matter of greater urgency? Didn't Harry have him at Portsmouth?
Exactly, one moment, we are told that Harry does not want to do any contracts yet this guy is of an age and supposedly seeking a two contract? Strange indeed. http://talksport.com/football/exclusive-free-agent-benayoun-set-sign-qpr-deal-13101964773
Just because he is seeking a two year contract doesn't mean he will be offered one. As this currently stand I'd be happier to see him on the bench for our next match instead of Jenas.
Another ex Harry player. Was good in his day but not so sure good move for us. Hogan - similar build and weight (and younger) is out of the picture...just seems strange move for us.
First of all if he isn't good enough for the top flight then none of our squad is meaning we're f***'d anyway. Secondly, if he gets a contract that means he have one year left if we go up, that's hardly lumbering us is it?
