Exclusive - Free agent Benayoun set to sign QPR deal By Warren Haughton (@WarrenHaughton) | Saturday, October 19, 2013 Free agent Benayoun set to sign QPR deal Former Liverpool and Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun is set to join Championship side QPR on a free transfer. The 33-year-old has been without a club since his release from the Blues last summer, after playing in their Europa League winning side, and has turned down offers from other Championship sides, as well as Premier League outfits Crystal Palace and West Brom. The Israeli also rejected offers from abroad, with Spanish outfit Getafe and Greek giants Olympiakos both scrapping for his signature. Rangers boss Harry Redknapp is looking to add to his midfield options as he looks to take the Londoners back to the top flight at the first time of asking. Benayoun, who had stints on loan at former side West Ham and Arsenal during his time at Chelsea, is set for a medical next week and could put pen to paper on a two year contract. The midfielder has been back in his native country training with former club Maccabi Haifa, after losing his place in the Israeli national side due to a lack of game time. I've always rated Benayoun. I'd agree that midfield is not our priority but he has been a very good footballer. As to whether he still is and whether he could break into our team, maybe we will find out.
Benayoun remains a decent footballer with something to offer somebody. The issue here, of course, is that we're still not scoring that many goals. OK, so, today aside, we're not conceding many either, but if I was writing a letter to Santa Claus anytime soon, it would be to ask that the Rs put more teams to the sword and deliver scorelines that their possession, dominance and attacking play often warrants. Now, is this more likely with more midfielders, or strikers?
8 views, 8 replies. 100% of the people who've read this thread have had something to say about it. I, with regret, will alter that return as I've decided not to reply, I'm going to reserve judgement on this one because I, like roller, have always thought he was a class act.
Could be. He's still just take the place of a squad player though I would have thought. If Austin gets injured I suppose we could play Yossi up front?
Good player who sure would do a decent job but do we really need more midfield options, still our attack & defence that looks threadbare.
Move kranjcar to the right instead of O'neil, and play Benayoun close behind Austin/Chevanton? Don't know really Col. Not saying it makes a great deal of sense, just that he's been a good player. Able to bridge the gap from midfield to forward and to chip in with a few goals of his own.
You can only really play 1 out of him, Carroll and Kranjcar so it makes no sense at all and will just mean more turnover in the summer. A young AM to replace Carroll would be fine, not another has been who cant a a job elsewhere.
We have to plan for injuries and suspensions, we need more than just a first team. Redknapp has also shown that he is willing to pick horses for courses. Should this be a genuine story, maybe Redknapp sees him as a better bet for away matches where Hoilett or Phillips could be seen as a luxury. On the other hand maybe Barton is off in January.....
