Er.....let's think. Man United hit the bar twice, we scored in the 89th minute so that would be a no.
Is it difficult for me to comprehend how good France must be if Morgan can't get in the French squad - I am fully expecting them to walk the World Cup and go down as the best football team in history. Cannot wait to watch them
Apart from that shot (wtf was that anyway ?) I would say that this was his best game of the season, Victors as well. They could have backed off as they both picked up yellows which would have let Fellaini control the game
Just got up to be greeted With the sports headlines and result. Well done the lads!!!!! 54% possession against 46% is no mean feat against Man united. I see Pochettino has credited Lallana 50% and Lovren 50% of the goal, during his interview with the press. It seems all we need now to complete the team is a Van Persie type player to really push us to the next stage!! Not a bad result at all. Well done Saints!!!!
This. I also expected at least a point before today's game given our form and ability, and I'm not naturally given to optimism. The difference is though I wouldn't have been angered by a loss. Such is the perspective gained from following the Saints!
Indeed, we had the best of midfield and the game in general, and a lot of classic Saints 'nearly chances created by nice football' moments, but that was probably a fair representation of the main chances of the game. Think they did well to balance the United-heavy highlights with a minute long love-fest from Shearer.
Blimey, just watched the highlights on MOTD and you'd think Saints managed to get away from OT by the skin of their teeth. It was only in the analysis where they showed any of the 54% possession that Saints had. I'm all for showing excitement, but let's have a bit of balance, and reflect the actual possession slightly.
They did spend some time discussing it after the clips, and to be fair, it's hard to do a highlight package of timely interceptions.
It was a bit of a duff highlights package, but hey, it doesn't affect the points we get to take. I can see extended highlights elsewhere within a couple of days anyhow.
Tend to agree with this. We seem to have developed a defensive system/approach that's right up there (although it has to be said that Man Utd still hit the woodwork twice as well as scoring and forcing a couple of good saves from Boruc) but going forward we seem a bit pedestrian to me. We may have had 18 shots but I don't remember De Gea making any particularly notable saves. Osvaldo obviously had a good chance (although not quite as good as I first thought - the ball was slightly behind him and I agree with those who say he should have taken another touch) and Clyne had a decent one but most of our 18 shots were fairly tame. In the games I've watched this season our short passes in the final third just seem predictable and take too long to be played. Aside from Lallana (sometimes) we don't seem to have anyone with the skill to go past a player, and there seem to be a lot of crosses from fairly deep and longish balls into the box. In contrast Man Utd looked sharper and more dangerous almost every time they got into the final third and created much better chances than we did. I still think lack of width going forward is an issue. On MOTD Shearer talked about how willing we were to get players forward but here's a screenshot from the footage they used. Look how narrow all our players in attacking positions are. please log in to view this image I don't feel like I should complain too much because we're getting results but I have two concerns: 1) We're still scoring from set pieces most of the time. I really believe goals from set pieces will only get the team so far. To succeed you need to create goals from open play. 2) I agree with something I've seen CBK say more than once. Our games just aren't as much fun to watch any more.
