The North East branches of specsavers must not be getting much business! <laugh> Stunned anyone can think its anything but a pen and sending off. I think some get a surprise when they see the video of it.

Tiote, Debuchy and Gouffran would be my MOTM contenders. Maybe Le Gouf, his workrate was great and for once he didn't run out of steam. Cabaye was class first half.

What line? He was on the field of play as best I can remember at the time. His being down and on the pitch was playing Liverpool onside anyway as ref had not stopped the game. He wouldn't be allowed to just leave the pitch.

Agree not a"real" tug and might have just been hand on shoulder as have not seen any replays yet but what on earth was M'Biwa doing that for anyway?

A soft foul but a foul as modern players and referees are concerned. Still remember being at Hillsbrough and watching Supermac carry Waldron and score rather than go down because there had been contact.

I can respect people when they think it was a pen, but stop using the word "tug". Mbiwa didn't ****ing tug Suarez. He put his arm across him and yes, he did somewhat have an impact on Suarez composure, but should any contact in the box that effects a strikers movement be a pen? I don't think so.

Defends should be allowed to put pressure on players and Mbiwa simply put his arm on Suarez. Suarez could have easily stayed on his feet and even had a shot.

My point about the line is Tiote was trying to get himself back in front of the defenders, but he should have waited for the right moment to do it. He steadily made his way to try and get back in front of the back line and all the Liverpool players had to do was watch Tiote and time the lob ball correctly and Suarez was in.

Tiote should have thought and waited. If Tiote had done what I'm saying, despite keeping Suarez on side, he could have stopped Suarez having a direct run in on goal, and there'd be two players on him which would have made it more difficult for Suarez.

Oh behave, will you! Had that been any other player but Suarez there wouldn't have been a debate. Just like the one that wasn't given at Norwich last season when Suarez was karate chopped on his neck from behind five yards away from the ref - and some papers justified it because of Suarez's 'reputation'. Gosh, it's almost as if it serves the agenda of some opposing fans and papers to ratchet up the Suarez-diving hype... :emoticon-0176-smoke

Anyway, you were comfortably the better side until that sending-off and showed up our nonsensical title pretensions for what they are. Good luck for the rest of the season. Bet rid of Mbiwa.

Here were go, more people allowing emotion and ego to get into discussions like this.

It's got nothing to do with the fact that it was Suarez. I'd have the same reaction if it was Gerrard or Henderson or any other player. I look at every case individually. What I see is Suarez going down far too easily and Mbiwa making very little contact that would have effected Suarez in an unfair manner.

But this boils down to opinion. I said I respect people who disagree with me in my original post and now someone always has to come along and get butthurt and think telling people off instead of just disagreeing respectfully is justified.

There are different angles, and both show different things. From certain angles it looks like a tug, but from the angle showing Suarez in front of Mbiwa, it's clear that Mbiwa puts his arm on Suarez and Suarez falls down easily.

I see it the same from every angle. Gets caught behind him, goes right of him for some reason, grabs and has a little tug on his left shoulder, Suarez loses all momentum, falls (albeit dramatically), pen, sending off, stupid. Mind it wasn't his only **** either. Came bolting out of defence on 2 occasions, missed his tackle and put us under pressure. Willo and Cabaye appeared keen to let him know he was an idiot!

Ah well. He's put in good performances and he's having trouble now. I guess we'll just agree to disagree on this one and remember how long it took certain other players to get used to this league.

These niceties are all well and good Tash, but you've completely ignored my comment. I was at least expecting the decency of being called a fat ****, or similar. ;) <ok>

Agree penalty was soft. Back in the day it wouldn't have been given but in todays game it was always going to be given.

With regard to M'Biwa I think he just needs time as has the talent. He just needs games, experience and an old hand to help him. If he is able to handle the physicality of this league and learns he will be a great player. Only time will tell. Lets not forget Colo's first season and how bad he was.

He needs support from the coaching staff now. Look at Debuchy, he is slowly learning. Solano took 18 months. Its no good jumping on his back at the games, he is having a tough time. Its easy to say "right he'll never be good enough, get rid" but its not the sensible thing to do. If we are going to invest money in foreign talent then we have to be patient enough to wait for the player to adapt.

    on the penalty shout

YES, Mbiwa did put his arm on Suarez's shoulder giving him a chance to go down.
YES, most players should stay on their feet, but the current game has evolved to such an extent where players go down easily and often. Even Gouffran did so when someone slid in as he intercepted the ball.

In my opinion, the better way for Mbiwa should've been to slightly pull Suarez back and then immediately release already. However he didn't, which gave Suarez a chance to go down and for the ref to give an easy penalty and red card. If Suarez , given his years of experience in scuba diving, chooses to go to ground, but Mbiwa had long released his hold on him, then the ref might think twice about giving it and we can indirectly punish Suarez for his choice of making the dive instead of staying on his feet and taking the shot.

All in all, still a very good game , and we played very well. I wonder if Tiote keeps the captainship if Colo doesn't come back.

I've seen the replay, it wasn't a penalty and if it was a penalty why would Cabaye man handle the referee.
