There's an interview with Big Vic on Radio 5 Live this evening if you're interested.

That's OK. Saints Birdsnest didn't acknowledge that I'd read his article, the other day. In fact, you probably only read it after I mentioned your name, in my answer. :)

The opening statement from Jim White in the Telegraph brought my eyes out on stalks. He writes:

At Southampton’s training ground in the rolling Hampshire countryside, the diggers are at work. This place is already one of the most advanced footballing facilities in the country, bristling with the latest sports science resources.
But construction is under way for a further extension; more offices, more medical facilities, £15 million more of everything. When it is all completed in the spring, Staplewood will make St George’s Park look like a council rec.

    That's a kind of WOW..!

I thought Jim White was very London club oriented. Other respected journos like Jeremy Wilson say the nicest things, but then you know he a fully paid up Saints fan. Chris Rann is now getting his name about too.

I want to just point out, this is not the Jim White from Sky Sports News.

This Jim White is a journalist and author who is a Manchester United fan. He's done radio work for the BBC on 5live and BBC Radio Four too.

Fun fact - He presented STV's Champions League coverage for just one season. The company had mistakenly booked the wrong Jim White.

Ha, got me confused because if I think of Jim White, I think of the journo first, and not the Sky Sports presenter. Don't see much of the latter in my world. Didn't realise the journo JW was a ManU fan though.

Ah right. My comment was more aimed at the one above yours.

Chris Rann is just a Saints fan like the rest of us, he enjoys blogging. Not a journalist as such, but he gets a lot of writing for the Metro website and ESPN and comes up with some amusing stuff.

I think in some cases, once you get blogging for one of the larger media groups, say ESPN, then others find you easier and request similar for their own online platforms.

In any case, I know there's conflict between achieving recognition and lying low, but I quite like achieving the recognition as a club.

Yes it may be more of the same for close followers of the club, but it enhances our profile in the media and with the wider footballing fraternity, I suppose.

Good articles there (posted by Qwerty). I suppose the papers have decided that the present high position of the Saints is a good angle. Two points. Firstly, Cortese's comment about the team manager being one of the department heads is not new and not a dig at MP. He made a similar statement shortly after arriving here...it's the way he wants things run at SFC. A manager moves on, but everything else stays the same. Secondly, like the comments about the Academy refurb/rebuild...this is not the action of owners out for the quick buck...this is a long term plan as you don't get the money back from that investment immediately.

It's makes you wonder how much they are willing to put into either an extention or new stadium!

Even though they are spending a lot with the training ground that does add value to the club so doesn't nessarially mean they are in for the long haul but a good sign none the less. :)
