I've heard this phrase used a lot in a business context. It's particularly hateful hearing a Richard Branson wannabe in an ill fitting Moss Bros suit talk about "our journey" to market pre-eminence.
Talking about 'Our Journey' - Cortese has been given an apology of sorts and acknowledgement of his success in the paper today. See it here: https://twitter.com/Swanie_888/status/388202092474540032
Today's update... ...two years ago today, Rickie Lambert scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Pride Park against Derby County.
Four years ago today...
I would say so. I didn't know anything about Pochettino until after he was appointed, and I would consider myself pretty knowledgable about football. Also, that schneiderlin miss in today's Oldham video... Absolute shocker!
The last line of commentary, "....off the bottom of the table for the first time this season". Blimey!
I always loved the Connolly goal in that video. One of my favourite goals of "the journey". I'm not really sure why.
The comment after SRL's free kick: "Well, Rickie Lambert cost a lot of money, a million pounds in fact". How times change... Vin
Probably the best million ever spent in the history of football transfers; who else has taken a team from bottom of 3rd tier of English football to 4th place in the top one, and got a couple of caps & international goals to boot?
I'm reading through it myself. At the time I was annoyed by how outrageously angry some people got (I remember going through twitter and retweeting people saying things like "It feels like a family member has died") but now I just find it hilarious. Let's hope next time it happens (as it probably will) people remember their basic anger management techniques.
I said Pochettino would have to do something special to win me over. Well I class wins against Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool twice as something special. And the signings we've made under him are pretty special. Pochettino has officially won me over.
Good point. Impossible to quantify of course but there can't be many better. But, who was it who turned him from a (good) Div 1 player into an England player? Someone needs to be properly credited.
I felt like that at the time. I was even up for a one-game boycott, although I was never anti the new guy! You're right, it seems ridiculous now but it was emotional when it happened. Of course, however you look at it, it was a gamble to a point. Its easy to say now what a great decision it was (and it was) but it could have ended in tears.
He was offered an opportunity at a team with facilities and a future, but a lot of credit must go to Lambert himself for recognising the fact. He knew this was his best chance of climbing the leagues and time was running out for him. Pardew said that Rickie knuckled down as soon as he arrives at SMS and changed his bad habits.
I don't really want to read it because I think I was pretty bad, sorry everyone. My excuse is that I got dragged around reception venues that day so I was doubly miserable.
