somebody comes and hits you with a OOOOOOOO LA LALALALALAL OOOOOOO LALALALALALA OOOOOOOO LALALA OOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Yes, I was a bit disappointed with it too! I really love "Do I Wanna Know?" but the rest of the album isn't really that great. I loved Favourite Worst Nightmare and Suck It and See so hopefully they will be back on form next time round.
I think there's been enough talk about Monkeys, particularly the Arctic sought, its very much a white area.
"Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" was one of the first albums I loved and it still is one of my favourite albums, since Favourite Worst Nightmare they've turned to **** (barring RU Mine?, which is a good song). Sold out for the American audience, I like QOTSA but Josh Homme ruined Arctic Monkeys. Alex Turner used to be a lad from Sheffield who could describe a night out in UK through his songs, now he is a Danny Zuko wannabe who writes songs which I have no interest in.
Wow! I didn't actually like WPSIATWIN that much and Suck It and See is not just my favourite Arctics album but also one of very favourite albums full stop!
Having lived in Sheffield I saw Alex Turner a couple of times in my local pub by Hunters Bar, also the Drummer owns a bar in town which is dear as F**k. The 1st album was and still is incredible, favourite worst nightmare was average in my opinion with 2 or 3 really good songs.. Humbug and Suck it and see were gradual improvements and their sound has matured a bit (along with mine as well probably) similar to DM suck it and see is one of my favorite from them.. But I can say I've loved songs from each albums and AM is no different.
Porter Cottage is indeed the one... Saw him there a couple of times, sat in the corner with his mates and with a face that said "don't talk to me" Always liked it even if it was nearly double the price of the Tav and champs further down the road.. Out of interest, which uni and what year did you graduate? I used to live on Neill road and Walton Road
UoS, not hallam. i recognise the name neill rd, we were off brocco bank so the other side of eccleshall rd. happy days. i remember the nusery tavern too.
UoS is the only uni in the city, right? At Sheffield myself actually, got several friends living around Brocco bank. I'm sure an Artic Monkeys song, and I can't remember which one, recounts the delights of the club Corporation in the city centre.
Think you're right DH Got plenty of good memories from living there, top city, and I'm sure it's improved since I was there in the nineties
Corporation.... what an incredible little place. £1.50 quad vods and 50p alcopops (when I was there a couple of years ago) and the metal staircase was an absolute deathtrap... which is what the Arctic Monkeys song 'stickin to the floor' alludes too I went back to Sheffield a few weeks ago for a meeting and it's changed a bit even in the past 2 years... cracking city and they're still spending money doing the place up so would love to move back there one day
£2.20 for quad vods now, although they have to serve them in two glasses and let you combine them as otherwise it's illegal to sell that much alcohol in a single drink. Those metal staircases haven't changed though! And yeah, it really is a very nice city, I really enjoy living here.
50p for alcopops cannot be legal surely!? I know a place in Leicester that used to do shots for 50p - once the rozzers got word of it they shut it down sharpish!
