Gary Bowyer wants to keep Tom Cairney beyond his loan spell, hinting at a permanant move. £1m enough for his signature? http://www1.skysports.com/football/...kburn-hand-trial-to-free-agent-robbie-simpson
I cant see us getting 1 million for a guy whose contract runs out at the end of the season and was not a major figure in our last championship season or really any of our seasons to be honest. He has potential but he has never been a prominent figure for us. A half million would probably do it and if this was the other way around there is no way anyone would be tossing out a 2 million figure or even a 1 mill figure for him.
Im sure we could work on a sale clause on the deal where we get a % of any future sale or a promotion fee if they go up.
If we can get what we got for Evans (800k) we should count ourselves lucky with his contract up at the end of the season. He has no pace and is totally one-footed and I can't see him breaking into our CMF with Thudd, Livermore, Quinn, and Meyler available.
Bruce will probably let him go for free. He's easily worth a million of anyones money but with his contract up 6 months after the transfer window I doubt anyone will pay that. One footed is a stupid argument, so many players are one footed, just because he's a left footer doesn't make it different. No one says anything about purely right footed players. You also don't really need a great deal of pace to play in central midfield. He's surely miles faster than Huddlestone, Gerrard, Lampard just to tickle the surface and they all do just fine. I'd also say he's a better footballer than Meyler or Quinn. I hope we make him sign a new contract, let him finish the season at Blackburn where he's doing very well, then let him have a crack at making our team the season after. If he does go, a buy back clause has to be put in it as well as a sell on, it looks like he's finally pulled his thumb out and started making the most of his quality, if he carries on how he has so far a player with the ability he has will fetch more than a few bob and make a valuable premiership midfielder.
I totally agree with that point. I just dont think he's very good. If we can get 500k and written first refusal on Rhodes then snap their hands off.
I think we'll be lucky to get £500k, which is a shame, as he's worth far more than that. Edit: The Mirror think they're going to offer £1.75m. Still, it is Blackburn.
If we get that Bruce deserves the Queen's award for business. (assuming he oversees the setting of prices).
I think he has the potential to be very good but unfortunately doesn't look like he thinks he has to put the effort in and can get by on talent alone! Shame really, as in glimpses you can see he has real ability even at Prem level.
That's according to the Mirror though so probably unreliable.. but fingers crossed we can get something approaching that. He's been in terrific form. I'd be sad to see him go. The 14 in my name wasn't a random choice.
I agree, if we get anything over 1m for a guy who didn't play much for us and is in the last 6 months of his contract they would be insane. I'd happily try and bundle him with 6-7m for Rhodes.
Any move depends on who's manager of Blackburn in January. They'll probably get through two or three more between now and then.
I think we should try and do something like this. I think Rhodes would be a better signing than Long and might be the missing piece we need.
Of course, positions count. If we are in the bottom 3 in January and Blackburn are challenging for the top 2, then he likely won't come. If we can at least keep this momentum going long enough to make sure we are say 14th in January, he would certainly consider it. Agnew might also be a key factor.
