But Billy if the majority of the properties are derelict then the 'family home' argument doesn't stack up. Also the Council do have the right to either rectify the problems with the properties or even demolish them to prevent them becoming either/or a nuisance or danger to the general public. On this occasion the Council also have the benefit of a fully consulted plan designed purposely to upgrade the community to the benefit of the residents.

  2. Majority obviously doesn't mean all and I'd argue that one family living in a derelict street still constitutes as a family home because a family is living there.

From what I've read the properties in question are not presently being used by their owners as family homes. If it is correct that only 2 of them are habitable and they are not occupied by their owners then the grounds to oppose the CPOs appear very weak.

However, the Council may find more problems in other parts of their planned development that I know nothing about.

If the club had done that twenty years ago (and not encouraged the decay that has devastated the area) all this would have been sorted a long long time ago. The club and the locals would have been much better for it.

Blame Moores and his cronies for all this ****, they basically went to war with the residents because they had the temerity to object to the way the club went about rebuild in the 90s...despite the fact that the club made a right mess of that.

If they're empty, derelict or landlord owned then CPOs will be a doddle yeah. However if there are about 30 still left to acquire I'd imagine a proportion of them won't be empty or we'd have them already. The landlord owned ones will be easy enough to acquire with some negotiation. Derelict ones as you say will be impossible to fight a CPO. I think a "fully consulted plan" is stretching it unfortunately. Up until a few months ago I know of at least one residents group who maintained they'd had no contact from the club whatsoever.

At the end of the day even with the "family home" argument CPOs are notoriously difficult to fight. The ground expansion will happen, it's simply a question of how soon. For the first time in decades I genuinely do think the club can see the benefits to all of improving the ground AND the area. It's just such a shame it's taken so long.

you know that scene from Saw V when they have to chop their own arms off to kill the other captive so that they can live? I'd love that to happen with Moores and the FA. And James Lawton.

Billy I totally agree with you. As you know, my school was condemned as early as 1960 - before I even got there! At that time the area looked the same as my beloved Dickens Land. It's a shame that both areas were allowed to go to rack and ruin and become slums before somebody decided to do something about it - without shipping people out to prison camps like Netherly

Why build estates like Netherly? They could have knocked down every other terrace. Extended the houses into the yards and given them a garden where the other terrace used to be. That way they could have kept at least part of the community together whilst giving them somewhere decent to live. The Council could then have built something better for those poor souls who they did re-locate.

John Betjeman got it wrong, the bombs should either have fallen on Netherly or better still the Council offices on Dale Street!

    i was only joking dave.<yikes>

But tbf the population of the city of Liverpool was far to big back then to accomodate everyone so they built concrete overspill areas to lessen the load.
