Redknapp looking pretty stupid now, having to say what a good manager Hodgson is and how he 'understands' why the FA picked him.
 
I'm not sure why he bothered backtracking. Should he really be arsed what Hodgson made of his comments?

Oh go suck a wasp, Swords. It's in the newspapers, therefore it's newsworthy. Whether it was intended or whether it gave offence or whether it SHOULD have been in the newspapers is immaterial. Please don't start with all the crap you were spouting before, because life's too short to get into an argument with you when you clearly don't have the facilities to do anything but deliberately wind up other forum members. I hope it gives you the satisfaction you are clearly lacking elsewhere.

And I think it's a bit rich quoting Andy Townsend, given his oft-displayed lack of knowledge about anything even remotely football related. Is he a relation of yours?
 
Im pretty sure this is the joke. Its hilarious the PC crowd get offended on someones behalf and are in fact more racist than Woy. Woy clearly did not associate Townsend with a monkey or he wouldnt have said it. In this case Smalling was an astronaut so it clearly wasnt a racial thing. As someone said on the BBC, the PC corwd undermines real racism. A bit like the yanks have you put on the sex offenders register for peeing in public which then makes the whole thing a joke.

NASA decided to send a shuttle into space with two monkeys and an astronaut. They trained them for months. Then when they thought they were all ready, they placed all three in the shuttle and got ready to send them up into space.
As the moment came closer NASA's mission control center announced, 'This is mission control to Monkey One. Do your stuff.'

At that the first monkey started typing like mad and suddenly the shuttle's engines ignited and the shuttle took off.

Two hours later NASA's mission control center announced, 'This is mission control to Monkey Two. Do your stuff.'

At that the second monkey started typing like mad and suddenly the shuttle seperated from the empty fuel tanks.

Another two hours later NASA's mission control center announced, 'This is mission control to the astronaut...'

At this the astronaut shouted 'I know, I know. Feed the monkeys and don't touch anything.'

I don't doubt that Hodgson was not being intentionally racist when he said 'feed the monkey', but someone obviously took it that way, or we wouldn't know about it. Of course Townsend is going to say that he wasn't offended, as he doesn't want to rock the boat.
 
If what Flyer posted is what Roy actually said, then he should never had said it in the first place.

I was thoroughly confused reading it, let alone a bunch of soccer players half time in a major match!

or he's mature and knows the difference between racism and insensitivity.

I was at a game with some older people I knew and one of them asks if anyone fancies a chinky, now I know they aren't racist and it was simply a term for Chinese. same goes for when one of them used the word 'coloured' and was surprised his son said he wasn't allowed to use it any more.

older people are non PC but I love the fact that woy could say that joke without race even creeping into his brain, it just shows how non racist he is. plus the fact it was about two black players shows that there was no hidden meaning. the only racist is the one who leaked it who couldn't help but think that black people are monkeys.

My understanding was that he didn't actually tell the joke (wouldn't have thought there was time for joke-telling at half-time), but that he used the phrase 'feed the monkey' and then had to explain the context afterwards. I don't believe he was being racist but he was certainly insensitive and someone in his position should know better. As I said, if no-one had been offended, we wouldn't know it had happened.
 
This thread is about Harold is it not? ... His PB has caused him some headaches I am sure mainly because his accounts and fables within have been contradictory to say the least.

My point about how crap this country really is ... the way the media now look to destroy any good public opinion or feel good factor about the Brazil trip ... I read that there are murderous gangs in Brazil waiting to more or less kill England fans

Expect a lot more crap to fall out of the papers before next year along these lines ... as for bullshit coming out of Harold no forecast is necessary ... it's just a case of when
