Well, after a second impressive showing for England, I am now certain that Townsend's name will be the first on the England team-sheet for that right-side position, with Walnut being a very distant second. Gooners may well be shrugging this off with the usual "oh, well, at least Walnut won't get injured" old pony, but Walnut will be devastated knowing that he's lost his starting spot for the Word Cup, and I, for one, will now be watching to see how far his Prem form dips. Ozil injured, too, I notice. Not looking good for the Gooners in the run-up to Xmas. Could see us, Mousers, £ity, and Chavs breeze past them in the lead up to the New Year.

That's usually how I feel--I'd much rather England play Johnson than Walker--but I think in this case I'm happy Townsend played because his football stock has skyrocketed, which is likely to help both his confidence and his value. On the why-is-he-better-for-England front--sure, no doubt he benefits from playing against weaker teams and defenders. But he was also better because England made more of an effort to move up the field quickly than Spurs have been doing, which plays more to his strengths. Also, it seems to me he has two shots: a go-for-broke type and a controlled shot, and I never saw the former till he played against Montenegro. Someone needs to tell him the latter is useless, as it always seems to result in a tame tap right at the keeper, which he's done for us about ten times so far.
Whoops! I knew I'd forgotten someone! For me, there is no first and second team anymore, as the Europa is a serious competition for us under AVB. It's about finding those players who play best with one another. Sig can go in either of those two lineups as he deserves it, however, he still wouldn't be my choice as I feel we sacrifice a lot down the left due to it being unnatural for him. - something I've said a million times and I'm not going into again!
The problem for England is that playing middle ranking nations at Wembley is a different proposition to a top 10 team in the World Cup finals. The teams Hodgson played v Montenegro and Poland would get slaughtered by teams adept at controlling the midfield and retaining possession. Townsend deserves to be a first choice on his two performances, but who plays around him and how effective will he/they be with much less of the ball? Hodgson's test is getting these dynamic performances from players against Spain, Brazil, Holland, Germany, Argentina and the rest. Good luck with that.
Sorry for that! My system was playing up, and I couldn't see that I was posting anything! I had to log-off, in the end.
Townsend signs new four year contract. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24587187 He could have given up after the 8th loan spell but with Redknapp giving Andros the chance to shine, '' the boy took his chance''. How good can Townsend be? Better then Lennon? ... Already more important to England then Walcott.
I see in the independant today, that twat Herbert has stuck his nose into the Roy incident, and sent a 4 page letter of compliant to the FA for saying there is no case to answer
As I said a while ago, why hasn't Herbert been disbarred? There's a laundry list of reasons to do so.
It seems that Herbert wanted the whole thing to get dragged out. Nothing to do with the profile of his organisations or the lawyer's fees it would have generated, of course...
