In 15 years there will be 20 clubs bank rolled just like City...better to be like them now rather than when it'll give us no advantage.

Of course when there are 20 there will still be 3 that go down, owner will lose interest and those clubs will probably go bankrupt.

Villa already have an American owner, sure that would make a difference.

Yeah but he seems to have lost interest, selling off best players, slashing wage bill and little investment etc...

    CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL

I don't understand mate. It's the only way now (unfortunately) to achieve major success.

The only comeback I have to the idea of being jealous of Man City, Chelsea etc, which I am as much as any team who win titles, is that I'm sure I enjoy the moments from supporting a team that's pretty cack, where our "win" is a getting a mostly elusive three points from a lucky toe-poke in the last minute against part-timers, as much as a Chelsea fan or Man City fan enjoys winning a cup, and if my team did win something, it'd be as underdogs which would make it even more epic. Expecting to win things is boring. A boring I'd probably gladly get used to, but it can't physically be the same buzz.

That's all theoretical of course. I think as a scientific experiment, someone rich must buy us and subsequently a trophy. To see how I feel about it. ;)

long term I do feel it will be a case of 'if you can't beat them... join them' and we will have to find a rich sugar daddy.

As has been stated, IF Red Bull are interested they wish to a) incorporate their name into the football club and b) buy a club in or near London (tho Liverpool FC and Manchester are exceptions with their world-wide appeal due to 50 years of continuous success and marketing). So the obvious choices would be Red Bull Palace or Red Bull Hammers....or perhaps Reading Bull!
I'm afraid that professional football is increasingly going the way of everything else in our globalised world. Mega-city...market...money money. The weak economics and demographics - both directly linked to our geographical isolation - means that both Sunderland and NUFC will always be at a disadvantage. So we have to adopt a slightly different strategy in order to compete - and that surely means becoming a more community-driven club and having the best youth policy in the country. And, of course, we should have seen/done that years ago with Barcelona being the model.

I think Red Bull would be a good owner. I don't think that they would go so far as to mess the name of a PL/Championsjip team. Salzburg had already had sponsored names so I don't think that would be an issue. Any owner to take over from MA will have the easiest job in the world to win over the fans, firstly they aren't MA and secondly, he set a textbook example things not to do as owner. Whether that would have any longevity would depend on levels of 'success'. Red Bull have fingers in many pies and are often at the upper crust of those pies. Sure they would splash their advertising all over the place, but that is the world we live in. Besdies as a brand which is cooler- Sports Direct or Red Bull?

(I want a pie for tea now, and to wash it down, cranberry Red Bull.)

The thing about Red Bull is you are attaching "winners" to your club. **** knows we could do with that!!

Anyone willing to obliterate large parts of our - or any, for that matter - club's 100+ year-old identity and traditions because they might have a better chance of qualifying for the Champions League is not someone who understands what football is about.

Not a fan of Capitalism, then? Me neither, but I've checked and...yep...there's fck all I can do about it. So I go with it, earn as much as I can and buy stuff. I'd rather be a writer living in a tree. Sadly, Sainsburys won't accept leaves for payment.
