    Morning/afternoon.

I'm not going to read the article, and I'm not surprised you're number one. However, there's no way that Arsenal and Chelsea have more 'fans' worldwide than us. It's not possible.

Why not? It's the exact same reason you allegedly have 354 million 'fans'. Unless the population of Manchester and the surrounding counties is higher than I thought? <doh>

Glory hunters plain and simple. How many of them actually contribute in any way i.e going to games, buying merchandise etc?

I was a Chigago Bulls 'fan' in the 90s growing up when Jordan was there. Couldn't tell you a single player for them now.

Apparently there are even United 'fans' in Wales.

Probably true. Teenage kids in Asia and Africa are no way going to 'support' the teams regularly winning things; but a side which was good in the 80's before they were born....

It's completely ridiculous and irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. Not something I'm even remotely interested in.

The only fans who count are those with at least the potential to go to matches, i.e. those in Britain.

I don't really give a toss about the rest. I know this upsets some people but it's how I feel so tough.

There are those from further afield who do make a big effort on occasion to fly in from the states and such like and I guess what I say is harsh on them but as for the other 350.99999 million, well it applies to them completely .

    Predicable because it's true.

If you're a 10 year old in Asia, are you going to choose to support a team that has won 2 back to back european titles or the team whose last trophy of note was back when said kid was still in nappies? Why would they care about your past successes? Otherwise say Everton and Sunderland would have a much bigger global following.

Not saying that makes us better than you in anyway, personally i don't count such fickle support beyond the fact it helps us bring in more revenue. The real fans have real affiliation with the club, go to games etc and Liverpool have a great support.

However they risk getting left behind as the game becomes more and more global if they continue to fail to get in the C.L or compete for the P.L for instance.

But for marketing purposes, the more plastic fans the better.

actually it is same sample that is used in elections polls which often are 5% +/- correct
